At times Cal and Nellie’s banter felt really mean and like too much to me especially because Nellie felt like she always regretted it and didn’t really want to say those things but was just retaliating. But their story was so great I wish her parents had been more accepting of Cal and that his mom had showed up more for him. It’s interesting because these books always take years between each other and it kinda throws me off sometimes when they talk about kids from couples in previous books because they jump up in age so much between books. You don’t get to experience Nellie and Cal “dating” at basically any point in this book but it didn’t felt like you were missing it I mean it would have been nice to see but because of their friendship I think you got to see them interact enough to still be invested in them making it work.

The Bully by Devney Perry is a captivating romance that combines emotional depth with palpable tension. The dynamic between Nellie and Cal is magnetic, with their fraught history creating a charged atmosphere that kept me hooked from start to finish. What really stood out were the diary “flashbacks,” which unraveled their backstory, giving readers a rich understanding of their complicated past. The slow burn of their relationship, marked by misunderstandings and unresolved feelings, made their eventual breakthrough even more rewarding. By the end, I was happy to see them finally move past their history and realize that they truly were each other’s person. Devney Perry has crafted a beautiful story of love, forgiveness, and second chances.

The tension in this book was amazing! Cal is so much more than what people to choose to see from him. His dad is a scum bag. Nellie is sassy and nerdy and I love it! This was a bully romance that I didn’t immediately hate the MMC, which I kind of liked. I’m not usually a big fan of the miscommunication trope, but I enjoyed this one!
