There were so many laugh out loud moments of this. Hannah Gadsby is so likable and hilarious.

It really does require having seen Nanette before reading but, then again, who would be reading this and not have seen Nanette?

You can't "rate" something like this novel because it's deeply personal. The star rating I've given it is a reflection of the experience of listening - because it was worth every single second of time. Funny and utterly devastating in parts, there's echoes of the structure of Nanette the show in Ten Steps to Nanette.

Would highly, strongly and persistently recommend ANYONE who thinks that #metoo, or how we react / treat "difference" isn't an issue listen to this. (Or just simply everyone listen to this because it's such an important perspective). It's also a rather telling call on the oft-mentioned / never resolved utterly appalling behaviour of keyboard wankers (they're so far from warriors I can't begin to find a better word for them).

Stunning. Listened via audiobook. Although the subject matter is varied - from personal to trauma to art - the insights of a mind at work is fascinating to learn about. Hannah narrates with a lightness and deftness of touch that connects to the heart and is a delight to listen to. I will listen again and buy the book too. Highly, highly recommend.

Just as I can't put into words why I loved Nanette, I also can't explain this book.

If you enjoyed Nanette, read the book, then go back and watch the show again. You'll be even deeper in love.

Pathos + bathos = brilliance. STRONGLY recommend the audiobook which Hannah narrates herself in her inimitable delivery. I appreciated all 15 hours with her, laughing and understanding and thinking with her.

Having watched and really appreciated the divergent approach to traditional comedy that "Nanette" provided I really enjoyed listening to this memoir and learning more about Hannah Gadsby's upbringing and path to performing comedy.
