Straight forward and unflinching. I, like many others Hannah references in the book, had seen Nanette on Netflix but did not fully understand the trauma or life experiences that shaped the special. I deeply respect the courage it takes to write about the violence, struggles, and misdiagnoses that wrought such internal chaos. Learning more about her life has deepened my empathy for all of the “unseen” constraints that precipitate what might be perceived as erratic, apathetic, or immature behavior. I appreciate her perspective and hope there are plans to write more in the future.

If I could give this book 10 stars I would. I can’t find words to describe it. Hannah Gadsby has given the world a gift.

This was an entertaining read and extremely detailed recount of an experienced life. Moving biographical threads of growing up in an isolated town, dealing with homophobia, (trigger warning) sexual assault, and autism; ultimately, it won't be everyone's cup of tea --aside from that delightful sound of cup-hitting-saucer (IYKYK). I wouldn't call it funny as much as I'd call it clever (I'd say the same about the Netflix special), which IMO reflects Hannah's beautiful ability to tell an entertaining and moving story --which she certainly does, funneling the anger and betrayal dealt by life into an impactful work of art.

Hilarious & witty, raw & painful, while informative & eye-opening. Thank you, Hannah, for such an important, honest book.
