What a book! I didn’t know too much to expect from this book, but this was wonderful and touching. The characters and feelings and setting were so real and raw. This novel shows how difficult life can be, and how resiliency is not easy. Would highly recommend this one.

This is a beautiful, moving, and emotional story of a Muslim American high-schooler who undergoes an illegal stop and frisk, condoned by a Senate candidate.
I absolutely loved this story, and the use of poetry letters throughout was a unique twist! I loved the writing and am looking forward to reading more from Sarah Mughal Rana!

A YA coming of age story perfect for fans of The Poet X and All My Rage by @sarahmughal769
🔥
Muslim teen Nida loves writing poetry, as it’s part of her heritage. Her uncle is incarcerated for the poetry he wrote, wrongfully incarcerated during the war on terror. When Nida stops to pray in the park one day, she’s stopped by the Democratic Senatorial candidate’s task force and frisked against her will, being forced to remove her hijab. When Nida writes a poem about the event, she never expects it to go viral before the election and when the poem wins a national award, she receives even more media attention. In the aftermath, Nida is unable to write anymore and wants to give up poetry altogether. With the help of her family and Muslim community she’s able to find a way back to herself and her craft.
🔥
I couldn’t stop reading this book! It’s perfect for National Poetry Month and deals with kids having to make hard choices, stand up for what they believe in, speak their truth and follow their dreams. I adored it so much and my hope is that more people will read about Nida and have her story spark hope inside them. The audiobook was very well done also!
CW: bullying, Islamophobia, racism, police brutality, grief, death, imprisonment, xenophobia
