Marlfox may just be the single most cohesive story of the Redwall series in these first eleven books. Unlike some of the other books in the series, this one feels like it leaves no threads unfinished, no plot points unresolved, with a bevvy of excellent characters and some jaw-dropping action.
I thoroughly adored every line of this book, especially as it came to establishing some of its bigger themes of heroism, bravery, kindness, and what it means to do good or defend what's right. It's perhaps not as heavy as The Long Patrol, but I felt like Jacques was really striving for something of a balance between extremes, with characters who take their vengeance against those who would do them wrong without thirsting necessarily for all bloodshed. Dann is such an interesting character as abbey champion, torn between callings, but paired with Song, arguably the best abbess in the series to date. It's like Jacques finally managed to figure out how to take all the best parts of the series and put them into one novel, with a clear structure and plot threads that all come together for a wonderful tale.
As a kid, this book disappointed me because I never felt the Marlfoxes lived up to their threat; as an adult, I realize that this might well be one of the single best-crafted adventure novels I've ever read. Simply immaculate storytelling, and I think this may represent Jacques at his peak. What a wonderful book, and what a wonderful contribution to an ongoing saga.

This one was fun. I honestly dont remember how long ago i finished it, but whatever. Anyway, I remember this one being a pretty interesting infighting thing that was fun to read.
The only Redwall book I barely remember. Though the ones without audiobooks I only read once, while the ones on audio I liked to listen to repeatedly, which obviously made them more memorable.
