I've heard a lot of praise for Murakami's work but this one did not do it for me. A compilation of short stories. I mulled over finishing this. Some were okay. But overall I was disappointed because I expected Something. Plus the lonely male trope was such a yawn. Hesitant to pick up other Murakami work now but alas i must see the hype..

I don't really like short stories so it is pretty high praise to give a short story collection four stars. I don't like short stories because I always feel cheated -- if the ideas were good they would have been turned into proper novels. I can't get comfortable in a short story. There isn't time to get to know the character and the story always ends too soon. But I did love the short story Men Without Women. I think that was the most successful here. I liked Sheherazade and Samsa in Love was weirdly funny.
