It was nice to check in on Edward and Bella again, but it was too long and drawn out.
The new insights were there, but flung far between a whole lot of the feelings. Unfortanately, it was the same feelings, over and over.

This book is way too long. Could have cut out half of the first half of the book. But the second half of the book is much better and it’s a lot of fun getting all the insight into the Cullens. Having read Twilight back in the day it was fun delving back into the story through this perspective

okay. hear me out.
while its understandable (and expected) that someone's writing would improve after a decade and then some, it was still a huge relief to start reading this and find it hugely improved from twilight writing wise
not only do we learn a whole bunch about edward and his inner monologue, but also bella herself which was a great surprise. it makes sense that the things we learn about her is stuff she would gloss over about herself, or even outright ignore, considering we only know this story from her point of view, but learning about her interests and personality make her way more compelling and likeable to me (and i already liked her, so its just a bonus)
it was great to see more of the cullens in their day-to-day life and how they interact with each other, and i found the way they responded to bella really interesting; it really Does feel like an oddity to have this human around a bunch of vampires and i feel like the alienness of it all never truly came across in twilight
i think its kinda funny that meyer is clearly trying to retcon a lot of eddies reactions and the things he says, mainly the reasons behind why he says and does the things he does. not exactly a complaint, its good to know he isnt a total control freak and just a constantly terrified anxiety ridden loser (affectionate)
it makes me wish the original saga had been written with this level of detail form bellas perspective
the issues i have with twilight as a series remain, tho its expected they werent going to go away considering this is just the same story but slightly to the left; the romance, while having a slightly slower burn than the movies, still moves Way too fast. WAY too fast. the emotional weight never truly feels heavy considering we know these two have only known each other for a few months at the Very most. this book is also way too damn long
it did Not need to be this long, guys.
anyway, concluding thoughts, i enjoyed myself and thats truly what matters :']
