Ok so shoot me! I had a week of feeling physically sick and couldn’t focus on anything of substance. One day I was scrolling through my Libby app and this popped up as available and so I read it. It actually wasn’t as bad as the original Twilight. The whole story might have been better told from Edwards point of view! So much less teenage angst!
Bumped the rating up .25 because I had an enjoyable buddy read.

I really enjoyed reading the story of twilight from Edwards’s perspective. It gave more insight into the Cullen family and my favorite parts of the book were learning about Edward’s and Alice’s powers working together. Also hearing more details about Jasper’s abilities was intriguing. This book could have been a lot more effective though without so much repetitiveness. It could be half the length without losing any depth because every other page was Edward talking about how he’s no good for Bella but he loves her, he should leave her but doesn’t have the strength. This same dialogue occurred SO often, it lost it’s impact. Overall if you enjoyed the original Twilight series, this is a nice edition to it.
This was a fun, short read. I’ve been revisiting YA books I loved back in the early 2000’s and so this was a weird trip down memory lane, from Edward’s POV.

I dont know if it was because it took me back to high school when I read the first twilight books or because Edwards point of view was better than Bella’s
2025 review: 5 stars
Re-reading this because I am about to go on my honeymoon in the Pacific Northwest, and I am feeling all kinds of Twilight nostalgia because of it. I liked this book even more the second time. Is there tons of fan service here? Oh YES there is! But I love it and I don’t care because somehow as soon as I read the first page, I was transported back in time to high school aged me discovering this series for the first time. Edward is such a melodramatic mess and that it is genuinely funny.

Edward's POV is better than Bella's. I said what I said. In seriousness, I see where Meyer tried to respond to some criticism in the areas where she could (like fleshing out Bella a bit more through interactions that Edward observes), and that makes me like her a bit more; perhaps it wasn't all criticism response and some was how she saw things play out in her own mind but it didn't translate well in the first novel. I digress. Seeing more of what makes the Cullens tick was great, and I love Alice even more. It's not ground-breaking literature, but such a good re-telling of a book that changed so much of the YA landscape.
