The beginning of the story plods initially, but soon gathers momentum, and the portrayal of the perpetually troubled Charlie as ever rings true. This is more a detective story than a horror novel, but Connolly places plot twists which keep the reader turning the page.

What's this one? Oh wow they're all starting to blur together a bit. This one has a missing girl, gangsters, and a man who murdered a girl when he was 14 who hires Parker, via his lawyer, to find out who's sending him nasty photos. This audio had two readers which mixes things up a bit.

Supernatural horror mystery has never been so fun. The best puzzle-piece detective plots of the series. We get a very intelligent who-done-it abduction with one of the creepiest "characters" we've yet to encounter. A strong entry in Charlie Parker-verse.

Recommended to fans of any of the mash up genres.

I don't think I've found a Charlie Parker that wasn't a 5 star for me. I enjoy the dark human deep dives and how all answers are given in the end. Every book is wrapped up except for Charlie himself and that's why I keep coming back.

Top 2 favorite series ever

A good, taut Charlie Parker story. Very little supernatural, but potent in its use. An interesting tale of human nature and how the damage done to and by children is far reaching for all of us. As the best Parker episodes are, sad and creepy all at once.

This is a really quick read and is about the only book so far that you could term as being standalone. It is more mystery and swerves away from the supernatural compared to some of the previous books. This one takes us to another town in Maine called Pastor’s Bay where a girl has gone missing. This is a well woven plot that involves organized crime, a man with a violent past and a town of citizens who know too much of everyone’s business but also don’t know that there are predators among them.

Aimee Price (Charlie’s lawyer) has a client that needs Charlie’s help. While he doesn’t like his new client he feel obligated to keep his confidentiality. This brings him head to head with both the FBI and the State Police. Charlie does have a certain way of antagonizing the authorities and anyone that basically rubs him the wrong way. With some red herrings thrown in the book comes to a bloody end with Charlie barely holding on to his PI license.

Angel and Louis make a little appearance to help Charlie out and we also see them cleaning up a little in New York.

A book about new identities and hidden personalities that you cannot suppress as your true self will come to the surface in the end.

Charlie Parker takes on a missing child case, eventually, in 'The Burning Soul', book ten in the paranormal detective series. Officially, he is working a possible blackmail case for a Pastor's Bay, Maine, lawyer, Aimee Price, who needs a private detective to trace the source behind the harassment of a Pastor's Bay accountant. Randall Haight (randy hate, haha), a very unlikeable man, has been receiving photos in the mail of a barn door and child porn. This is very bad, because Haight is a participant in a judge-ordered relocation program. No one is supposed to know of his previous incarnation and incarceration for the murder of a 14-year-old girl in another state when he himself was 14 years old.

After serving his time, upon release from prison, he was given a new name and home. Now he is Randall Haight, accountant, honest citizen, as a reward, partially, for his testimony against his partner in the murder, 14-year-old Lonny Midas, and because he was a juvenile when the two boys committed the crime. Together they raped and killed an innocent childhood friend in a barn. They both were sentenced as adults, and after serving their time, both were placed into new identities. Haight has no idea where Midas might be, or if he is behind the horrible photos. What is clear is someone knows all about what happened. Are the implied threats linked to a new kidnapping of a girl from Pastor's Bay? Is Haight being set up as a fall guy? Or is Haight playing some sort of double whammy?

Kurt Allan, Chief of Police of Pastor's Bay, is trying to hold his little Maine town together. There is the crowd of reporters demanding information about the disappearance of Anna Kore, a 14-year-old Pastor's Bay child, daughter of Valerie Core, local divorced mother. Then there are several various police agency detectives and officers who have taken over the investigation - the FBI, the Maine State Police's Criminal Investigation Division - once the Amber alert was released. It appears the Kores might be linked to a criminal overlord currently involved in a power struggle which he is losing - so he is being pushed out of the Mafia enterprise (gentle reader, mafia dons who have displeased the other mafia leaders do not exactly retire). But Allen's real troubles begin when Charlie Parker starts investigating Anna's disappearance. Parker is not about to follow protocols and rules. He is digging up all kinds of secrets....

I enjoyed reading this novel. John Connolly has a literary style of writing mysteries that sometimes causes booklover tingles, but he also tends to walk off of the mystery-genre reservation into the paranormal world as much as his hardcore private detective wanders into acting as judge and jury. Nonetheless, this is still a satisfying dark-mystery series.

Another great addition to the Charlie Parker series!
The Burning Soul is the 10th book in the series.

This series and the writer, John Connolly continue to impress me with every book that I read.
The plot of the missing girl, the writing and the characters are all so wonderfully done in this book along with the series.
In fact, I’ll read whatever Connolly decides to write even if it’s the ingredients off a box of crackers!

In the small town of Paster’s Bay, Maine, Randall Haight has a secret and a past.
When Anna Kore, a 14-year-old girl goes missing, Randall knows that he will be the first person the police will seek and ask questions of.

Randall needs to be proactive with this situation so he decides to hire attorney Aimee Price.
Aimee Price often uses Charlie Parker on cases as a private investigator and decides to do the same for Randall Haight.

The Burning Soul involves dark secrets, twisted lies and mob connections that will test Charlie Parker at every turn with the case of missing Anna Kore.

Will Charlie Parker find Anna Kore before it’s too late and can he save Randall's reputation?

I loved having the characters of Angel and Louis in the book for a bit. I think Connolly knows how much we love these characters so he throws us a bone and gives us our fix, even if it's only for a few chapters.

I’m always impressed with the writing, the dialogue and how well the plot is put together, including plot twists!!

I am so looking forward to the next book in the series!
