The casual racism and satanic panic of the plot itself took me out of the story several times, and it definitely cost the story some of the stars it could have had with slightly different storytelling.

I love the terror of the lack of autonomy with the pregnancy and all the secrets kept from Rosemary, and the gaslighting was heartbreaking. The ending also made the horror worse in my opinion.
Just this woman who desperately wanted her baby to the point where she loves the monster that was forced on her. It’s also fascinating to think about the ways growing up with love could make Andy better or the horror of it making not a difference in the world.

I could also see the influence of the story on Immaculate, and it’s a favorite movie. It’s so interesting to trace the evolution in tropes over time.

I have had a physical copy of this book for almost a year now, and kept putting it off for some reason. Honestly, probably because I’ve already seen the movie (and loved it) so I was like, ‘what’s the point of reading the book?’ I know, I’m an idiot sandwich. When my husband told me that Mia Farrow narrates the audiobook and raved over how good it was, I knew I was going to go this route.

Anyway, wow, I loved it. I feel like Ira Levin is quickly becoming a favorite author for me. And yes, there is a point in reading the book if you have already watched the movie!!! A lot of it mirrors the book seamlessly, but there are some differences too, which was interesting! Such a creepy little classic horror story, and I’m so glad I finally took the time to listen to it! Plus, Mia’s narration was *chefs kiss*

My least favorite of his books. It’s a short book that somehow still feels too long.
