it was a lot of building with the plot, but i enjoy horror about being a woman, and the juice of catholicism drama and medical gaslighting being the "big thing" was interesting enough. nobody is surprised by the dated aspects of the writing and the casual racism, though, so. hits and misses

i previously read the stepford wives and enjoyed it, but this definitely outshines as a great and compelling read!! ira levin does a great job of making the plot feel timeless despite it’s setting.
all in all, this story is a horrific exploration of women’s (lack of) autonomy and the sacrifices of motherhood. i always remember the ending of the classic film and was worried how the novel would end- but i believe they are both successful endings in their own forms.
now i wanna make a “vodka blush” and hail satan!!

wow... thrillers are indeed good.
probably the first thriller-thriller im reading (Salem's Lot, this i won't even count, it was plain terrible) and i loved it!
i enjoyed it so much, i couldn't stop reading before finishing it... and that was when a solid 5-star-book turned into a 4-star-book.
The ending? Unacceptable. I mean the whole book was so good and the *plot twist* was the most anticlimactic thing i've ever read, damn.
However, the rest of the book was delightfully terrifying, an odd mix-up of Good Omens, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Twilight (it's the pregnancy thing, don't judge me)

There were too many names and places for me to keep up with early on, and I wasn’t feeling entirely hooked when a lot of other names were coming in. One interesting thing happened, but it wasn’t enough for me to want to keep reading.
I watched the movie after I gave up on the book, and I’m very glad I didn’t read it all the way through because I hated the ending.
