Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward are two of my all-time favorite authors. I honestly just love each of them as solo authors, but also when they co-write! They never disappoint and I know I am going to love whatever I read from them. The Rules of Dating was no exception! I was invested right away and didn’t want to put this book down.

I loved the way this book started. It had me cracking up right away and I was hooked! Billie and Colby were easy to like and I felt the chemistry between them right away. I loved their undated and how genuine things were between them. I also really enjoyed the supporting characters here as well and was so glad to see we are getting another book in this world about one of them!

This book was everything I love about Vi and Penelope’s books, and romance novels in general. It was sweet and sexy, funny and entertaining. I think contemporary romance fans will love this one as much as I did and I highly recommend it! I already can’t wait for the next one!

The first 50% was so great. The slow burn was perfect. I enjoyed the build-up of the relationship. I loved getting to know the other characters. But after the 50% mark it was just so sappy. Lol. That's all.

I would have given this book a higher rating, if it weren't for the sex scenes. I cannot anymore with these guys in romance books who are perfect 10s in bed and always, ALWAYS have the biggest packages. Just nope.

Another wonderful book by Penelope Ward & Vi Keeland. Billie is definitely my favorite heroine ever! She was amazing. Loved her rough exterior. And adored Colby. Hot & Sweet and doting on his daughter? Yes, please! This book was definitely filled with lots of ups and downs. And in a different way than most of their books. Definitely read this one!

This is Billie and Colby's story, a single-parent friends-to-lovers romance, we get their slow burn story with the past catching up to them, the story itself is good but predictable I love these authors, but this book just felt flat for me, something was missing, the humor is there, maybe the chemistry is a bit off and the main characters didn't hit the way they used to, the story is just not that refreshing, hope they write something more original and less predictable. Looking forward for their next book.

I loved both characters so so fun! They were complete opposites in literally every way, but they made it work. I just didn't love the plot the second half of the book.

Did you ever listen to a book and only half hear it? I feel like this happened the first time I read The Rules of Dating by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. Because when I went to review it, I just couldn’t remember it enough (I’m always a month behind on reviews) so I listened again and liked it so much more the second time around.

Billie (female) owns a tattoo studio and Colby is an architect who also co-owns the building her shop is in with his 3 best friends. Colby is a single dad to an adorable little girl Saylor, a surprise that was left on his doorstep from a one night stand.
“We can be friends, can’t we?”
She bit her lip. “Fine. Yes, we can be friends.”
“Great.” I winked. “But just to clarify, I sometimes look at my friends’ asses.”

Right away there is a spark between Billie and Colby, but Billie just ended a relationship (WOW, you’ll see that scene!). She also doesn’t want to jump into something with a single dad unless she’s really sure. But Colby has it bad and he looks for any excuse to bump into her.
“We don’t have to date Billie, we can ‘undate’ .”

The first half was a slow-burn friends-to-family romance, the second half, however, was angst galore! I do think the twist took up too much of the story and took away from the main couple. It could have been shortened and ended before going as far as it did, then the wrap-up was a little too neat and tidy.
“That’s how I know this is real. Because true love is when you both feel like you’ve found someone you don’t deserve.”

Likes:

  • •I absolutely loved Saylor and the way both narrators did her voice was adorable.

  • •Colby and his friends were all really great. I hope we get each of their stories.

  • •Colby was such an amazing dad.

  • •Really good slow-burn buildup.

Dislikes:

  • •The twist went too far and took up too much of the book.

  • •The story wrapped up a little too neat and tidy after all the angst.

The Narration:

Maxine Mitchell and Zachary Webber were both absolutely perfect for the roles and I think their performance made the book even better.

The Down & Dirty:

I listened twice to The Rules of Dating by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward. I love a single dad book, and I really loved Colby. Billie took a little more time to warm up to but I loved her so much in the end. Saylor, Colby’s little girl, completely stole my heart, and the narrators made her extra adorable. I did feel the angsty part went on a little too long, but I still loved the book in the end and hope we will be reading about some of the side characters soon.

Rating: 4 Stars, 4 Heat, 5 Narration

Amazing opposites attract romance

This was an amazing opposites attract romance. The story had me hooked right from the beginning. Billie was hilarious and so full of sass. Her first meeting with Colby had me laughing so hard that I almost cried. And the rest of the story was a great mix of humor, steam and gut wrenching emotions. I simply loved this story and I’m so excited that Holden will get his own story as well. And I’m holding out hope that Braden and Owen will also get to have their own stories told.

This writing duo is one of my absolute favorites. Every book is a hit and I one click every book written every time.

Colby is a single dad who is absolutely smitten by his four year old daughter. She is the only girl for him until he lays eyes on Billie who owns the tattoo shop of a new building that he has purchased with his three other friends.

The way this author duo plays up the steamy chemistry between these left me a bit hot and bothered until they finally combust! I was a bit worried when these two seem to get their HEA a bit to early in the book. Not to fear Ward and Keeland deliver a one two punch that I did not see coming. Thank goodness everything is resolved by the end when they deliver the knock out and tell us that a new book is coming soon with one of my favorite secondary characters.

3.5 stars. I didn't like the immigration plot in this. I had to suspend my disbelief and anger too much. It is a shame because I love this duos writing.
