what better way to get through quarantine than by reading about childhood trauma lol. definitely really interesting to learn more about how the field has developed in the last 30 years. the brain is just crazy interesting. also, such a nice experience reading the physical book. all the diagrams are in watercolor and the paper of the book felt really nice!

I know many reviewers disliked the format of the book, but I really enjoyed the conversation between Dr. Perry and Oprah, especially in the audiobook. I'm not sure I had any "aha" moments, but more like validation and confirmation moments. Many complained, but the bottom line is that healing is not a one-time thing and no one book will have all the answers. I guess if I did learn one thing from this book is that healing moments don't have to come in one-hour increments in the office of a mental health professional. It comes in small steps, over a long period of time, maybe even a lifetime. But healing IS possible.
Graphic: Self harm, Child abuse, and Emotional abuse
Moderate: Death of parent
