I absolutely love this book. Judy is just so funny, and her letters are so amusing, I love it.

This book sucked me in from page one. The main character is so amiable, interesting and intelligent and the writing style so inviting. It felt like talking to a very good friend and made for a book that was read quickly and deeply enjoyed. It's hard to believe it was written 100 years ago, it easily could have been written today.

I expected the plot twist but it was a fun read nevertheless

Jerusha grew up in a boarding school for orphans and despite her restrictive and uninspiring upbringing, developed a spirit that manifested itself in her schooling. This brought her to the attention of a generous (and mysterious) benefactor who provides her with the opportunity of attending college where she thrives and blossoms into herself. As a stipulation of this financial support, Jerusha is made to write regularly to her patron about her educational progress. These letters are full of wonder, gratitude, humour and spunk. This is a light hearted and quick read that leaves you with a warm contented feeling.

I’ve read it when i was a teen, and now, in May 2024, i’ve read it again — and i’m so happy that i did!
this book makes me feel as warm and happy as it did ten (or something) years ago.
some parts of this book are certainly dated, but i think it could also age even.
overall, this is still a “feel-good” book that made me feel lighter again (for the duration of reading this book).

and god!! i love judy so much!! little me was certainly in love with her too and didn’t realize that (which is funny for me to think about now).
my 5-star rating is certainly subjective, but i can’t rate this book lower — not with how much joy it brought to me now, when all things seem so bad
