My rating: 4 out of 5 stars
What a fun little read! I was in the mood for something funny and light and this book was definitely that.
"Daddy Long Legs," is kind of like "Anne of Green Gables," meets "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society".
It has a charming main character, an interesting cast of side characters, and little bit of mystery.
Jerusha is a witty and sympathetic main character. Her letters made me laugh and also made me think.
Though we don't technically "meet" the side characters, we do get to know them well from Jerusha's commentaries about them.
As for the mystery surrounding Jerusha's benefactor, I did figure it out really quickly. That didn't ruin my enjoyment, though! In fact it made me more impatient for Jerusha herself to finally put two and two together.
My only complaint about "Daddy Long Legs," is that it was much too short! I wish it had been a hundred pages longer. I felt like certain seasons of Jerusha's life, especially her senior year, went by way too fast. The rushed ending kept me from enjoying the romance as much as I would have liked to. I do know that there is a sequel to "Daddy Long Legs," which I'm assuming will focus more on Jerusha's romance. I will have to check it out and see.
Despite my desire for this book to be longer, I did really like it. I'm so glad I was recommended it by two lovely ladies on bookstagram!

I thought that this was a really sweet and fun book. Although I must admit that my rating may be a little biased because I got this book for free. (Free stuff is always better.) Judy was such a fun character and I loved being able to go through college with her. Everything was so new and exciting and it made me want to see life like that. At times the letter form bothered me because I felt like the only person I truly got to know was Judy... and even then she wasn't all inclusive about her feelings in her letters. Overall, this was a quick and fun read.

"Sabe, Papá, acho que a qualidade mais necessária em qualquer pessoa é ter imaginação. Torna-a capaz de se colocar no lugar das outras. Torna-a bondosa, compreensível e complacente. Deveria ser cultivada nas crianças."
"Não são os grandes prazeres que mais contam; em saber tirar parido dos pequenos e em viver o momento presente, reside o verdadeiro segredo da felicidade, Papá."

Really liked it just lacked some depth that I would have liked to have seen.
I was delighted to find a copy on Project Gutenberg as I haven't read this since I was a child and it was fun to revisit it. Jerusha "Judy" Abbott writes delightful letters to her mysterious benefactor as she leaves the orphanage to go to college and learns and grows up and finds her feet. It's sweet and charming.
Well THAT was unexpected. I really like the plot twist. Convenient.
One of my favorite quotes.
We're reading Marie Bashkirtseff's journal. Isn't it amazing? Listen to this: 'Last night I was seized by a fit of despair that found utterance in moans, and that finally drove me to throw the dining-room clock into the sea.'
It makes me almost hope I'm not a genius; they must be very wearing to have about—and awfully destructive to the furniture.
Mercy! how it keeps Pouring. We shall have to swim to chapel tonight.
Surprisingly, I got this book from the Mother-Daughter Book Club as one of the books they read as a group. Having heard of the book before, I thought I would try this out. It's the only good thing I've ever gotten out of the Mother-Daughter Book Club and I'm glad I happened to read that one book in the series or I wouldn't have read this. It was fun and the twist was unexpected as it was exciting and happy. The only thing I found odd was but I just ignore that bc it's not that important in this book.
This is a sweeter, much better version of Jane Eyre. It's funny, and it's short. She's goofy, fun, happy, bouncy. Kind of the exact opposite of Jane Eyre, so if you want a similar story, this is a good one.

Novela juvenil epistolar.
