Ahhhh, my guilty pleasure! There is nothing that does it for me more than a book full of twists and turns and a dark plot! And reading the dedication had me right where Amo Jones wanted me - hook, line and sinker!

"To stories that fuck you so good you'll need a cigarette.
This is one of those stories."

There was so much promise right from the beginning and I was truly itching to get this story started. And then.... the story started.

Were some of the events problematic? Yes.
Did I care? No.
Was it always believable that these were 17-year-old imposing this much havoc? Not really. But that's okay!

The twists/turns of this book were great. I'm usually able to predict the next events or the 'grand reveal' ahead of time, but this kept me on my toes the entire read! Which is probably what kept me pushing through...

Let’s start with the major problems I had with The Silver Swan.

1. Editing. There were too many grammatical issues for me to look past at time. I would find myself re-reading sentences just to make sure that I wasn’t losing my mind and reading them incorrectly. But without fail, it was just an oversight on the author/editor for making sure that there were minimal errors.

2. Storyline. As much as I loved the twists/turns, the events were all over the place. I found myself struggling to understand how we ended up where we were. Major twilight zone.

3. Friendship. The friendship of the Kings in this story is well written. You don’t fully understand why they have the loyalties to each other. But… the friendship with Tatum, Madison and Tillie? Yeah, I didn’t care. I didn’t buy into it and there truly wasn’t enough building of their relationship for me to give a shit that Madison had friends. I mean major fail especially with getting me to buy into the ending of this story.

Here's to hoping Amo Jones capitalizes on the second book!

2 Stars (Audiobook)

Note: I wrote this review whilst reading the book because so many things started annoying me about it that I had to write them down as I went along, so this is rlly long and messy and more of a rant tbh. Also, I hate giving bad reviews but... 🤷‍♀️. I might be a little too harsh at some points, but this book really really frustrated me.

I hate this book. I absolutely hate it. I hate the characters and how they interact with one another and how inconsistent they are and how they talk. Ffs. I hate it. This had so much, sooooo much potential. Wasted. Goddamn wasted.

Ok let’s start with the minute list of things I liked about this book. There were some really tense and hot sexy scenes in this book. Like hella hot. The characters had a prominent hate-love relationship. And some of the points where the MFC was terrified, were also times that where I was terrified too. Like full on “I’m 7 and scared of the dark” scared (I’m listening to the audiobook at witching hour in a dark room with dark mirrors, don’t judge me!!!). For instance when she’s in the car and those texts were coming through and the following first half of the forest scene (I mean I know who it was but it was still terrifying for me because of the atmosphere the author created). So I’m giving this book 1 star for the sexy scenes and 1 for the ones where I was a lil terrified.

However the decisions made by the MFC that led to this all happening were absolutely ridiculous, I mean who says they will find a party in the middle of a forest on their own after a number of different people said they would go with her and after being kidnapped once?? Who?? Also the second half of the forest scene becomes so unbelievably comical. It was really frustrating.

There was zero zero zero (other than a somewhat decent amount of sexual) chemistry between any of these characters. And the MFC was in no way emotionally or mentally affected by the kidnapping. Like I get that it wasn’t a completely horrific ordeal (she didn’t fast raped or beaten) but it was still pretty bad but she’s totally calm around all the guys after it. Girl. They lit smashed the glass to your car while you were sat in it and then proceeded to scare the crap out of you. How do you not cringe every time you are near them??? And then Bishop kisses her. Later on she says she loved it but whilst it was actually happening there was no description of it so as the reader I couldn’t connect with her attraction to him since I’m continuously told why Bishop is attractive as opposed to being show an actual personality that I can be attracted to.

Also the MFC is just so desperate. And she makes so many stupid goddamn decisions. Ugh. I can’t deal.

Also, “you get my duck hard”, I really hate that line, but this book does not have it once, not twice but four goddamn times. Pleas stop. That sentence is not sexy. At all.

One minute this guy it threatening to kill her and the next he’s doing this for her own good or he’s grinding on her. It works other books such as Corrupt by Penelope Douglas (the sexual chemistry and behaviour in this book reminds of the Devils Night series) but the emotions are very poorly written. Also the fact that such scenes take place in front of a number of characters who’s names I don’t know or remember just makes me uncomfortable. I’m usually okay with ménages or voyeurism but this just had so many unknown characters around during times when she is scared and aroused and I’m constantly over aware of them as the reader.

And how is she all right, no no no, not just alright but at ease and comfortable with being with the guys in the glass house after what happened in the Hummer.

Also do there really need to be so many guys in the club. I literally can’t remember more than three of their names because there are so many of them.

Also, I understand insecurity but ya can’t describe yourself as the standards of beauty and then say you aren’t beautiful. Like stop. She describes herself being insecure about everything even though, as I have said above, she’s the Standard of beauty. There must be something about herself that she likes right??? Wrong. Not one single thing. Ugh. Stop being naive about your beauty. Just own it. Or authors, please write your characters in a way in which their insecurities don’t sound fake or you characters just being intentionally nieve. Them being insecure about everything very rarely sounds as though they are humble or actually insecure, it just makes them sound like stupid idiots.

“I don’t have that nice small butt or the perky small boobs that just sit there and look perfect. I’m not big. I’m actually petite, but my curves are most definitely not. The dress shows most of my boobs and a whole lot of my figure. I’ve done a good job at hiding it—up until now.”

Also the MMC, “do as your fucking told”, after the shit you put this girl through, bitch nah. (But obvi she goes right ahead and follows blindly)

And omg. Omg. When she asks if his dad is CIA and the MMC jumps on the excuse/lie. Ugh. Why is she so stupid.

“Yeah, friends. Some weird friendship we all have going on.” When talking about the Elite Kings.

Um. Yeah. Sure. Whatever ya wanna believe. 👀👀👀👀👀

Ok I can’t be asked anymore. Whatever. Bye.

Note: so at the point where I said bye above I was actually about to DNF at like 92% but I actually managed to finish the book and am really frustrated with how it ended because I want to know what happens next but I rlly don’t want to read the next book. Ahhh. Dilemma.

I did enjoy this series for the most part... but I won’t be reading Nates book or any others in the series unless she does right by Tatum.... she deserved better. Sorry guys.

I’ll give a positive rating because it was enjoyable enough but I didn’t care at all for Tilly... can’t really remember because she was barely in the series, haha and I didn’t care for her at all.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 4.75/5 Star Rating

Amo is an author I had been wanting to read for a while now. I was not disappointed in the least. Normally, when there are a lot of characters or a plot that is tough to follow I lose interest quickly. Somehow, I managed to stay glued, sooooo many questions, so many "whaaaat?" moments, but it is a captivating story. The characters are well written, well described. Bishop the quintessential Alpha, Nate his Beta. Both are absolutely swoon and drool worthy. Both's sex appeal is off the charts! I can see why Madison is attracted to both.

The story of ancient, and possibly archaic traditions. The Elite Kings, a Secret Society that is generations old. Those involved take it seriously, deadly serious. Some have died because of and for it. I can't wait to see how the rest of the series goes, and if we get some answers instead of more riddles.

DNF Alert: The Silver Swan was put on more than one Booktok spicy recommendations list but I wouldn't know if those spicy claims are valid because I couldn't get past the 2nd chapter. I usually try to get at least to chapter 5 before I quit but the characters are ridiculous and the premise is laughable. And to be honest I don't even know if I would enjoy the spice considering this is a book revolving around 16/17 year olds which is very disconcerting.

Premise: Little rich girl whose mother is possibly killed by her father is moved across the country to go to an elite expensive preparatory academy where a group of seven ultra rich, super hot bad boys rule the school through their "Elite Kings Club" I shit you not, that is the name of their little gang.

She makes an instant best friend with a quirky girl and all the boys want her, no real reason why because she doesn't seem all that interesting.

This book seems to be heavily influenced by Penelope Douglas' Devils Night series which I also thought was a mess but I was at least able to finish it. 0⭐

Almost did not finish. Plot line was not good and Maddison was hella annoying.

😯

This book had so much potential, but the execution was way off the mark.

I liked the mystery and the intrigue. I liked the sex scenes and the yearning that happened every now and then with Bishop and Madi. I liked her relationships with her friends. Too bad everything was surface-level and the author didn’t really delve into these things and give them more depth. The story just wasn’t believable to me and it was way too over the top.

DISLIKES:

- This book was marketed to me as a reverse harem, which it is not. Madi kisses multiple men, but she only sleeps with Bishop. Not a reverse harem.

- The beginning nearly caused me to DNF this book. Madi is walking into someone’s chest every two seconds and her only form of communication seems to be flipping someone off
