i think it always a beautiful stuff how she drew her secret lover around places. i love how i think about it.

ok wait a second, aaaaaaaaa this book is beautiful!

as a fan of imaginary city og ver, the present of this graphic novel feels like a gift, even before i read it. and yes, once i began to read i can't help my self being mesmerized by the visuals. no kidding the drawings were beautiful, not kind of clean-comic like but the pencil strokes build the nuance that's perfectly fit in the story.

talk about the nuance, since i had read the text-based book, i thought it was helping me to be easily immersed in the story. i had known the pace of this book, the weight, and the feeling of 'imaginary city' before i read this one. and because i remember the text-book based, i can recall a bit what's the idea, or the theme each chapter.

it's a combine of text and picture, so i understand it should be balance. there's silence in text that the drawing could take me long time to stare. and yeah i really love that kind silence!! the epilog got me shaking for excitement it's like so epic as a closure.

however, if this graphic novel stands as a one piece of work, i do think i won't be dragged as much as i am now. because at some point, the cut of words made it feels like unfully tales. there's missing puzzle that we ought to build ourself, that might invite a dimmed imagination, since it's based on our capability as reader, not fully guided by the writer.

but afterall, i enjoyed this book so much. and might go for the 2nd read to admire. if you're fan of the previous version, go read this. and if you haven't, try both. they're really fine.

"I love the idea of the person you love being scattered all over the city. So if you miss them--and you will miss them--you can just go there and feel them"

Imaginary City reminded me about at least two things: Jakarta Jakarta (Kuntoaji's song) and Imaginary itself. Both of them made me thrilling to read this book after a long haul. Actually, it's a bit boring at the beginning. Yet, as I digged deeper, i found something magical and enticing.

See, the quote above instilled and convinced my belief about the sense of magic within certain places. They told us the memory without even saying. Just like the way the central character in the book remembrance her past memories through went around her hometown. Even I didn't really know all those spots, the provided details has been flying me to them.

The book taught me how to appreciate space, memory, and the persons we love. And, geez, i miss what I've been leaving for few months, Imaginary as well.

"There is something that you're carrying within you and perhaps it's time to forgive yourself and rest for a little while."

"Any pain you're carrying, any heartache you're enduring, can always be washed by the ocean."

"I don't think I had a lot of love for my self. I tied to love my self through others, but it was impossible. I realize now that I have to learn how to fulfill my self. I have to learn how to be loved from within it."

"Regardless of who you are, where you are, and what you have done, the sky will always be above you. The sky was the most lovilng and loyal part of the world."

"Everyone here is in a state of suspension. They re either in love, looking for love, or waiting for love. And it all begins by understanding each other."

Saya berusaha memahami isi novel grafis ini, tapi rasanya it's not my cup of tea. Mungkin kalau saya membacanya di kesempatan lain akan berbeda

For the sad girls everywhere. Love this graphic novel version.

A captivating, heartfelt story. Rain illustrates the meaning of home, longing, memories, and loneliness by taking us to places in the city. Imaginary, because what the city means for her might be different than for everyone else. Her version of the city is one that is drenched with loneliness and memories. I admire her simple yet elegant prose, which sounds really sincere and honest. But I admit there are some parts that feel quite repetitive, cliche, and just plain cheesy. This is not a perfect book, but it's near damn close.
