Very good book! Many years ago the "Others" allowed humans to rent land from them to live but there were certain limitations to the agreement including staying on the land that they were assigned and not encroaching on the land that was just for the "Others." In the past, the humans understood that they must keep the pact or there would be serious repercussions. Many humans have forgotten to fear the "Others" and believe that the land should all belong to them. They feel that many resources including food and gold and in the lands that do not belong to them. There are humans that still want to work together and understand the reasons for the rules.... they do not want to die terrible deaths! This book follows the repercussions of breaking the pact. It is fast paced, exciting and a little scary.

It also looks at ways for the blood profits to break away from their cutting addiction yet still give their prophecies.

The next book should be very interesting and maybe I will finally get what I have been waiting for!

I don’t know. Nothing really happened. I was bored for a lot of it. Why are there so many conversations about real estate? And yet I finished it. There’s barely any development with Meg and Simon until the last few minutes of the book. Do with that what you will…

God, I'd missed this world! Even deeper than I remembered, filled with even more dangerous Others than before. While I really enjoyed the story and the action bits, the new characters (especially Twyla!) as well as Meg's new way of reading prophecies, I felt that the story was a little slow. Maybe I'm just used to intense action-paced stories, but I wanted a little more action. Still, the whole story was great and I really loved the ending. Can't wait to see where it goes next! Things will never be the same in the Courtyard, that's for sure!

This series just keeps getting better and better. The characters and story line are fascinating and real. The size of this world grows and grabs you. I can't wait to start the next one. It's so much more than a love story. It's a people story and a story of melding cultures and species.

If you hate cliffhangers (like me) not to worry, Ms Bishop ties everything up nicely but leaves me wanting more every time. I wanted to know what happened, yet I didn't want it to end. Trying to wait patiently for the next book...

Once things actually started happening, the story got really good. I found the romance at the end a bit forced, but we're dealing with two very awkward folks so I'll give them a pass.

I thought the book was a bit overpriced, so I went with audio-book, but I'll pick up the Kindle version after a price drop.
