Thank you to the author for an advanced reader's copy of Savannah Royals! This is a historical romance for fantasy romance lovers, heist aficionados, and fans of a messy stressy love triangle! This is a darker romance (I don't read true "dark romance" so I wouldn't have a clue where it ranks in that spectrum, to be very clear, but a whole lot of people die on page and everyone is morally murky so take that for what it is!). It's written in first person from the perspective of our female main character, an orphan of the Savannah catacombs who has risen within her found-family-turned-street-gang. Now, though, she's fallen for a target, a rich, golden retriever physician who could not live further from her reality. I really appreciated that while these characters feel very new-adult the narrative feels more mature. While Kat might not know the ways in which her primary relationships are toxic and codependent, the narrative definitely does, and the slow unwinding of what she knows is well done, leading us to a conclusion that feels both surprising and not, for how it reveals the psyche of power-hungry men. I loved our (multiple!) explicit declarations of fidelity, the navigation of a new relationship and equal partnership, the layers of reveals and the steady communication between our main couple. I felt like I lost some of the romance's momentum in the third act, and I'm not entirely sure why, so this could be a me problem. I also wish the narrative more explicitly addressed the intentional violence of generational white wealth in the South during this time period (particularly with Abe's depiction as the gang's sole Black member).

I’m going to start this by saying that it’s not the type of book I’d usually go for. I’ve not read anything that I’d say was similar to this before, but I wanted to try something new. While I don’t think it’s completely won me over to reading other similar things, I am glad I tried it as it was enjoyable.

The characters are the stand out feature to this book for me. While I found Katarina a bit annoying at times, she was interesting and complicated and enjoyable. All of the main characters had their own backstory and were fully formed and even the background characters weren’t just two-dimensional but had been crafted. The characters really made this for me and I enjoyed meeting them and getting to know them.

I enjoyed the plot but where it maybe fell down a bit for me was that the climax of the book didn’t really feel like one. I feel like the build up to it could have been bigger, maybe more pronounced in the book and it would have felt more exciting.

I liked the ending, it made sense as the ending without being predictable which I really liked. It hasn’t been left on a cliffhanger but I can see the room to potentially write more in the future.

Overall, not something I’d usually go for but I’m glad I did, well written characters but some of the plot built up let it down a bit.

What a wild ride!! Not going to lie it took a little bit to get into the book but once I was in I was hooked. I think at the start I didn't really connect with any of the characters which is why it was hard to get into for me. I love the overall concept of the book but I feel like I wanted more from the heists. The last heist though was chefs kiss and had me stressed the whole time I was reading. The whole time I was reading all I could picture was the Joker and Harley Quinn as Paul and Kat and I wasn't mad about it. The romance was a rollercoaster but left me feeling satisfied especially with the ending!

Overall an enjoyable read ~ perfect for a pallet cleanser read

Thank you so much to the author for an eARC of this book. I could not put this down! Seriously, I read the entire thing in less than 48 hours! What a wild ride! I highly recommend this heist novel, set in the gorgeous city of Savannah at the onset of prohibition!

Kat is a beautifully crafted morally grey FMC, complex and amazing!
Matthew is the cinnamon roll MMC you've been dreaming of!
With a full cast of complex and intriguing secondary characters, you are transported into this world, and you won't want to leave!

Highly recommend this sexy, smart hissyromcom! Definitely move this up to the top of your must read list this summer!

Ten stars!

Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the opportunity to read this eARC in exchange for an honest review!

🫶🏻 As always please check triggers before reading if you have any, your mental health is important 🫶🏻

I requested this baby because the cover is cute (I mean how can you not actually judge a book by its cover a little..) and I was intrigued by the idea of a historical romcom.

This one oozes Bonnie and Clyde vibes but like if they were more like Bonnie and Clyde and Jeff and Ricardo if you get what I’m SAYING. This began as a surprising polyamorous, why-choose type romance that evolves into a “you are MINE” romance. And, while I don’t typically enjoy why-choose, this story was just too addicting for me to care 👀

Let me get out my notes 📝
• First off, this is a DEBUT and I had to keep reminding myself that because this book is so incredibly well written and researched
• Takes place in 1919-1920 Savannah, Georgia
• We get gangs, we get con artists, we get suspense
• Insane banter between our FMC and really anyone she’s talking to ever but specifically our MMCs
• “Boarding school and collegiate finishing school for young ladies of the south” yes our con artists FMC goes there
• Prestige
• Doctor as one of the MMCs
• Mind bending plot twists
• Fast paced story
• Tragedy 🎭 ???
• Found family in the mix
• Inclusive, progressive, important

If you are into the 1920s era, Bonnie & Clyde vibes, strong willed FMCs, romance in all of its forms, then this one may be for you my friend because I ate it UP.

This one may have finally pulled me from the dregs of my SOTR hangover and it was an easy five star ⭐️

Kat Quinn is a Woman in the prohibition era who was raised in the catacombs in Georgia. Growing up with thieves and conmen, she meets a man named Matthew Damolin. This sets everything up for her to conduct a jewel heist. The more she is with him, she starts falling in love which puts her in a moral bind. This book has wonderful side characters.
