Originally, I first read this in 2022. I read it furtively, feeling as though I was doing something wrong in reading about two women falling in love. I hadn't come out yet publicly, and I was still unraveling the religious homophobia embedded in my psyche.

Thank the stars that I am no longer that girl.

It felt fitting to do a reread since I am, in fact, going to gift this to a lesbian astrology loving friend of mine for her birthday. She's a cancer, in case you wondered. And I can, in fact, confirm this is full of cliches, but probably because they're accurate for a good chunk of the target audience reading it. Case in point, my friend.

I will say I wasn't a huge fan of how Darcy was villainized at the end. Based on everything that Elle knew, it felt like there should have been more of a conversation vs. accusations and anger. But I also felt like it was unfortunately accurate for how most of us handle conflict. Also, the way women describe their love remains absolutely soul dazzling and beautiful.

"Darcy threw herself off the cliff’s edge and let herself fall. Not to Earth, but toward Elle. Elle, who was magnetic and made it sound like nothing was impossible. That even gravity could be defied if Darcy simply believed. That even if she didn’t defy gravity, she could fall anyway and it would be okay because Elle would give Darcy a soft place to land. That Darcy could trust Elle with every fragile inch of herself."

Sapphic love has me sighing dreamily. In short, yes to this book. I'm fairly convinced that reading LGBT+ books in this political landscape is an act of defiance as well as a reminder of what we're fighting for each day. So here's to queer love during this month of pride

No bad, but nothing special. Characters felt kinda distant and hard to connect to

if it wasn’t for the overly ambitious reading goal I made this year, I would have DNF’d this book.

it started…fine but it sure turned into a dumpster fire. At first it was just a relatively easy but not captivating read. However, the “romance” started out too fast, with a set up that was just too implausible for me to buy into. then it got worse. once they were together it just dragged on and got repetitive until the typical tired misunderstanding trope forced itself in to break up the monotony. which killed the vibe completely. the last 30-40% of this book was an absolute slog.

these women aren’t in love, they are just both hot and horny for each other. Also the brother is so annoying and needs to learn to respect even a single boundary.

3.5 stars. It was very classic rom com, which depending on your enthusiasm for the genre is a sliding scale of enjoyment. I've read this story before, wasn't bad, but didn't surprise me, at least this one was gay though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
