"You're not getting it," I say impatiently, plainly. "I'm in love with every single thing about you, Jack Kim-Prescott."

a christmas romcom! i loved reading about ellie and jack falling in love and the instant spark they had, but it didn’t captivate me as much as i wished. i hoped to get a little bit more of ellie and andrew and while i appreciate that they became friends in the end, i wish i saw more of their relationship and maybe more of their hijinks because fake dating when you’re in love with different people?? wild! in general, im not a fan of infidelity and while this isn’t true cheating, it has elements of it and the angst it creates is not entirely my cup of tea.

however, the fixation on failure and what each character goes through in their fear of it and how they work around it really does it home. combined with the cozy feeling of the holiday season, it makes this book a wonderful read.

Ugh my heart. I really enjoyed this read. The anxiety rep was so good (in my opinion), the therapy aspects at the end I enjoyed, the familial relationships of the Kim-Prescotts I enjoyed, the details, the story snippets, the air stream, and the bakery. I think my biggest meh thing about this book is that I didn’t necessarily vibe with the two main characters at times? And I didn’t feel their connection as well as I have for other romance books. But overall I liked the story, the growth, and the delicious christmassy queerness of it all.

Like Last Christmas by Wham!, but add some wild family dynamics and a relatable main character (and lots of Taylor Swift references).

It's not The Charm Offensive, but it's also not trying to be, so that's okay. I really liked it!!

Critics are calling it 'is this good or do I just have a terminal weakness for butches?', 'did I actually enjoy this or is Jack just really hot??', and 'is this a quality Christmas romcom with a reasonable, non-exorbitant amount of miscommunication and lying or do I just have a whopping blindspot where tall butch bakers are concerned???'

Loved the book, hated the infidelity and cheating. It was wrong and really messy.
The ADHD rep was great and really casual, the anxiety woven though the whole story.
The messaging of this book was just really nice and the new/found family aspect really wholesome. But the cheating knocked a star off for me...

It’s a sign of a well written book when even though you know what’s about to happen, you are so engrossed in the story that it doesn’t much matter. Steering into fake dating, love triangle (i mean trapezoid), only one bed, tropes could have easily crashed and burned. instead the characters shine. the lead characters grow and their flaws are addressed frankly and honestly in a way many romance focused books don’t. Parts of this book were too saccharine and could have been more critical of tropes, but I enjoyed Alison’s writing so much!
