This is Desamours’ debut YA novel, and is a mystery featuring a trio of high school seniors, Sariyah, Deja, and Malcolm. Sariyah hears voices that tell her what people near her need. When Sariyah scores tickets to a music festival, the three friends are beyond ecstatic. While at the festival, one of her friends, Deja, walks away from Sariyah and disappears. Five years earlier, Malcolm’s twin sister and Sariyah’s best friend disappeared. Sariyah and Malcolm vow that they will not let Deja become yet another statistic of missing black kids not getting the same attention from the police as missing white kids do. They will find their missing friend.

Desamours writing keeps the story from sagging in the middle - for the most part. There is, of course, a lot of teenage angst primarily from Sariyah who is narrating the story. The mystery has enough twists and turns to keep readers reluctant to put the book down. When the author reveals who the bad guy is, most readers will nod their heads in satisfaction because the author was careful to let the reader know what Sariyah was thinking as the investigation progressed.

If you are looking for something exceptional to read as you wait for Spring, this is the book for you. The writing, the character development, and the storyline are all remarkably well done.

A great mystery YA novel that touches on the secrets families keep and the injustices in America for people of color.

<< Thanks for Netgalley and the publisher for sending me an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. >>

I had a pretty good time with this. I love a good YA mystery and the concept of Sariyah's ability was unique and interesting. I felt the author did a pretty good job in leading us on and keeping us on our toes. The ending wasn't my favorite, but overall the story was solid and intriguing; it definitely kept me turning the pages. I look forward to reading more from this author
