4.5 ! teobel you are too cute <3 i just loved seeing all the representation in this book seeing women in stem, people of color, filipino fmc, and sort of the looming question of “what do you want to do with your life” and actually having a main character who didn’t know the answer ! it felt so refreshing to be seen
especially with the way the book ended it didn’t feel unrealistic while i didn’t like something that happened around the 80% ish mark i think it made sense considering the age they are
but overall this book is amazing ! it was fluffy and cute while also hitting deep topics !!

I was hesitant going into this, because I don’t read much YA romance and I have to admit- I didn’t have the chance to take physics in high school (or ever). But this book truly was so cute and so good. Never at any point did I feel like I didn’t understand what was happening and for that I truly thank the author for making a book full of science and physics accessible for everyone. I loved that we had dual point of views and I feel it made the story better. I appreciated the talks of sexism in stem and the conversations that Bel had with Neelam about women having to work so much harder only to be given no recognition. I think the romance was very cute but for it being pitched as “slow burn” it wasn’t that slow lol! And one thing is I wish we would’ve gotten some kind of closure with Teo’s feelings about his parents. In the book you constantly see how he doesn’t feel like he can fail, that he can just be a normal teen. He feels like he has to constantly be the person who is perfect, who is always there and who always gets everything right. I wish we got a moment of Teo telling his parents about how he truly feels and how the pressure they put on him is suffocating at times. I also wish we also got some of the same with Bel’s family. She talks about being torn between 2 parents and doesn’t know what to do- and we didn’t get closure on that either. Basically the science and romance aspects of this book were fantastic but the family dynamics and that aspect I wish would have been built on. This book was a pretty good length but I wouldn’t have minded a few more pages if we had built on the familial relationships! I think this book will be well loved by all who read it and I hope it will find the little girls who have been told that they weren’t good enough that they are- and they can do whatever they set their minds to.
Small spoiler:
I almost cried when I saw Bel going to community college and seeing that in a book and in a positive light means the world. To those reading this review who don’t know me- I’m chronically ill and my school journey was and is chaotic. I didn’t go to a big 4 year university and it’s ok. Any path you take is ok. It may have taken Bel a while to figure out what she wanted but it doesn’t make her dreams any less important than others. It doesn’t matter where you start and anyone who tells you it does can come talk to me.
Spoiler over:
But anyways I enjoyed this book a lot and I hope it’s a reminder to girls and women everywhere that your dreams and aspirations matter and that you deserve to take up space.

I'd recommend this for someone interested in a YA highschool romance with a STEM focus. I loved our FMC Bel and her journey of discovering her talent and worth as an engineer. I have too much personal trauma from my own college engineering club - where I was the only girl and I dated the pretentious prick team lead - to enjoy the romance though 😅
lighthearted
- nämnde Taylor (5 ggr), La La Land & Lizzo bla
- awww han lär sig Taylor-lyrics för henne🥹
- ”Hey if boys can do it, how hard can it be?”
- stark feminism och power med women in STEM-perspektiv
- helt ärligt ganska tråkig och oengagerande första halvan men blev bättre sen + epilogen var söt
