This was supposed to be a reread. I plan on coming back to it. A few new books popped up

Couldn't get into it. There are intriguing hooks but just not enough for me.

I honestly give this one two stars for the original idea, but apart from that.... I was just bored.... Such a shame.

This is genuinely the worst book I’ve read in a long time.
It’s won every sci-fi award under the sun, and yet there was no part of this novel that connected with, entertained, or impressed me.
I feel like I’ve read a completely different book to everyone else. And had I not read this in physical paperback format, I’d be convinced that someone swapped my copy for a fake version.
The world-building is clunky, confusing, dissatisfying, and downright atrocious. Nothing is explained clearly, and there’s all this confusion around gender that never amounts to any sort of interesting discourse. The author just expects us to understand the world and the Radch without giving enough info, and it feels like wading through mud just trying to get through the first third of the story.
I am a hoe for any kind of AI story so I was super disappointed by AI here. It was impossible to connect with the main character and her mission and motivations aren’t compelling whatsoever. The writing style is dry and lacks description, and there was zero sense of suspense or anticipation in spite of the attempted political machinations.
I’m not the type of bitch to hate-read a book, but that’s exactly what i did here. I realised eventually that the book just wasnt going to get better, but I wish I’d listened to my gut and DNFed it halfway through so I could’ve saved two hours of my life.
You couldn’t pay me to read the next one tbh.
