I tried incredibly hard to get into this book especially because I had to read it for a university course but unfortunately I found it very boring and struggled to get through one page a day.

i didn't like this book as i was reading it, but still, even after finishing it, i found myself thinking of it frequently. a subversive masterpiece tbh. i still don't love it, but i'm happy it exists.

Read for Houseman's Feminist Science Fiction Book Club

Definitely one of the best novels selected so far from a pure craft and literary merit - but I found it extremely difficult and unenjoyable to read, which I suspect is the point. But if you like surreal fiction with extended allegory and shape-shifting characters then this is absolutely the book for you. A real tour de force which I was able to appreciate for what it was once I stopped trying to make "sense" of the story. Will be great to discuss. I wish I had liked it more.

I really struggled with this book. Maybe it is my ignorance about the Indigenous tradition and culture and there seemed to be a lot of symbolism but I just couldn't connect the dots. I found the writing and message to be very dense and couldn't grasp the message.

This is an amazing book, but not an easy read. My thoughts on it are here: https://maamej.wordpress.com/2015/07/13/black-swans/
