I love all the Brother Cadfael mysteries, and this was no exception. My favorite quote came near the end, from Abbot Radulfus: "Better to fail a little, by turning aside to lift up another, than to pass by him in haste to reach our own reward, and leave him to solitude and despair."

Another wonderful, enjoyable Brother Cadfael book, in which he investigates the death of the generally loathed new parish priest. Suspicions fall on various people, including the nephew of the priest's housekeeper, who turns out not to be her nephew at all. Book was passed along by my late friend and fellow medieval mystery fancier Francis.

Another great Cadfael book. I love how the author describes Shrewsbury, and the people living there. Cadfael's garden and workshop/hut make me wish for my own little hut to share with my wife.
These are great murder mysteries for those people that are tired of overly complicated crime novels.
There's a more human touch to the investigations without a plethora of gadgets and science jargon being bandied about.
Love these books.

It's probably time to take another break from the series, because this one felt a bit formulaic. I always enjoy visiting with the characters, but nothing about the plot in this one drew me in, and there weren't any extras that made it really worthwhile.

Still, as always, I appreciate the quality of mercy that shines through the book.

Continuing my re-read of the series. One of my favorite parts of this one is Father Abbot's speech (at the end) about virtue and seeking your own perfection versus helping others.
