I can see why so many like this book, but it was just not for me. I found his constant cleverness and joking enjoyable at first but it wore thin quickly for me. I know the humor is almost the whole point of the book (only slightly behind the saving of the marriage), but for me it ended up feeling a bit over-worked. I admire his (and his wife’s) vulnerability in sharing their story and the sheer force of will coupled with grace and forgiveness that it took them both to get through to the other side. But the constant ribs and witticisms got old…

A curious book about a man struggling to save his marriage after his wife cheats on him, it’s a strange mix of humor, bitter observations about married life and Christianity. His wife spends most of the book in a shame-filled catatonia and it really makes you wonder why he fights so hard to hold onto someone he seems to hate. Oh, right: for the kids.

This is a wildly honest and raw portrait of a marriage. The author weaves human and sarcasm masterfully into the story to provide moments of levity that were both funny yet gut wrenching.

Incredible story, great writing, very emotional and hard to read at times due to the nature of the content, but well worth it. I appreciate Key’s honesty and wrestling not only with his marriage but his faith and experience of life in a screwed up yet beautiful world. Highly recommend.
