Skins by Ali Cronin

This novel managed to get the voices of the characters pretty spot on, but as for the rest of it, for me it didn't really fit the feel of the show. It was almost as if the writer decided that making it all about sex and mentioning drugs a lot was all that Skins was about. To me it felt pretty lacking in any depth. Then again, it's pretty rare to expect anything that great from most TV tie-in novels.

I have to admit, that I absolutely love Skins. There is something about it's rawness that makes it so captivating and I thought that Ali Cronin did a very good job at capturing that characters voices, it really did seem like we were inside their heads. But I do have a bit of a problem with the story line, it seems like the whole book was too wrapped up in sex, everything was about sex. Even Naomi and Emily's relationship which I always found to be very loving seemed to completely evolve around it. Yes, Skins has a lot of sex in it but that is not ALL it is about. Also the story seemed to stop right before everything was getting good, when we seemed to really be getting into the summer drama. Otherwise the book was entertaining and it was good to hear from the characters again.

A nice quick, fun read. I read it in a day. It would have been in one sitting had it not been for the fact that I was on the bus.

The reason it's a 4 star. The language. I know it's Skins and the language is to be expected but I'm not a big fan of swearing. Also Effy's sections didn't seem to tally much with her screen persona. In the Skins series she doesn't talk much and when she does she's usually quite dreamy. This didn't really come across in the book, in fact her sections were often quite long.

I definitely enjoyed reading this book, I for sure thought it was going to be five stars because I love the second generation of skins. But in the end some parts were just too boring, specifically Effy’s storyline. This book really made me like Katie even more. Nothing major happened in this book, but it’s still fun to read if you’re a fan of skins.

All things considered...not bad. Followed the little stories of the summer holiday between seasons 3 and 4. It's been a while since I watched the show but I slipped back into the world of the Skins characters pretty easily.

Overall - a little too much of Effy being...Effy. And a little much on the Emily/Katie/Naomi drama...which was fine but y'know. I honestly would've liked to see more Thomas/JJ moments cause those two are super cute.

Actually just x200 more JJ because y'know.

But yeah. It was good considering. I bought this book for like $3 and I'm not sure I'd pay much more. But for $3 it was definitely worth it.

I kinda miss Skins now...

This was a fun read, as a lover of the series itself it was interesting to picture the events of the summer after the events of S3. I particularly enjoyed reading about the development of the relationship between Emily and Katie, the complexity of their love for each other seems to unravel in this book and it’s fulfilling to see them fixing their sibling bond. Considering this book wasn’t written by any of the original writers of the show, it was almost perfect in relation to the plotlines of the TV show & had some VERY intricate allusions to season 3 and season 4.

This might literally be the worst book I've ever read. Every characters thinks, sounds, and acts in the same shallow, vicious way despite POV switches throughout.

As far as books go, this was a lot better than I was expecting it to be. Very crude in places, but interesting with reasonable character development. Wouldn't stand up well on its own two feet but as a compliment to the TV, it's definitely worth a read.

As a fan of the series, I did enjoy this book. I was particularly impressed with how the characters translated into this medium - it never felt like they strayed from what made them so special on TVs Some of the storylines were incredibly poignant as well and this made the book a really enjoyable read, it bridged the gap between series 3 and 4 perfectly. It’s only not a higher score because there were some flat bits where it felt a bit meh even the writing was consistently entertaining - some characters definitely got more love than others. If you’re as into Skins as I am, you’ll enjoy this.
