Almost didn’t read due to the reviews, but the scene that people are taking issue with isn’t what you think which you only find out if you finish reading it. That said, the book does play with power dynamics in sexual relationships in ways that can be difficult to read independent of this scene. If it bothers you, others will too so I wouldn’t recommend reading it.
There are multiple plots playing out and the ways they converged was well done. I also didn’t feel like the characters that were introduced that make up the other books in this series made things hard to follow

Graphic: Sexual violence, Homophobia, and Rape
Moderate: Stalking and Misogyny

*I am not a fan of the cleavage cover mine had a city view.
This was my first read of this authors work and I listened on audio. The narration was fantastic the reader keep me glued to my ear phones. The story was bittersweet, heartbreaking, sweet, wonderful and very romantic.
I thought the chase was well timed out, there was enough time and strife for me to become invested with these characters. Ms. Phillips did a fabulous job of developing the side characters even, they all became important and important to the story. The despicable nasty characters filled their ugly roles and were very believable and understandable. I will be reading more from this author.

CWs: rape, sexual abuse involving a child
I mean, what can I say. Phillips wrote the book on contemporary romance, right? I salute.
Is the content dated? Of course. Did I cringe? Yes. Do I have enough fingers and toes to count the number of straight white people? No.
Did I also read this with my chin dropped the whole time because of how INCREDIBLE Susan’s contributions are to the romantic comedy sub genre? Yes.

The Chicago Stars series was described to me as a romantic comedy series that was very popular. So while I was given the latest book, I thought I'd go back and start from #1. This all happens early in the book so I don't know if this qualifies as spoilers or trigger warnings..... An emotionally abusive father, childhood bullying and rape to me is not what I expected or the head space I want to be in while reading. I listened to the book about 2 hours and finally said no more.

I love the style in which these books are written in, I like the characters she throws into the mix as well, but I just CANNOT get behind her problematic views about sexuality, particularly in the mmc.
She has a bad writing habit of having men mess up BIG time, and then forgiving them very quickly for their (substantial) mistakes.
