Not my favorite, not my least favorite.

Still not sure how this is going to pan out but this first book was really hard for me to get through. I was about 60% of the way through before I felt like it picked up enough to hold my attention.

I will probably read the next 2 in the series just to see what happens, because the last 20% of the book started to be more interesting. The inner monologue and introductions to all 4 main characters was not the most riveting content, but I am interested to see where this goes.

So instead I swore with all my heart that I would serve him well. I would grant his wishes and fulfill his dreams and make sure that his life was filled with everything he could ever desire. He owned me, mind, body and soul. And I was his for as long as he wanted.

So instead I swore with all my heart that I would serve him well. I would grant his wishes and fulfill his dreams and make sure that his life was filled with everything he could ever desire. He owned me, mind, body and soul. And I was his for as long as he wanted.

I love retellings, so I jumped at the chance to read this one! Kingdom of Thieves is an intriguing fairy tale mash-up impressed me in nearly every aspect. A mash-up of Aladdin and Rapunzel, something I never would have thought of but it worked perfectly and not quite how you might guess.

Keeping true to the original tale, we first meet Aladdin who is caught stealing from a noble family and while in prison he meets Cassian, a former Royal Guard, who was charged with the crime 'gazing upon the Princess's face.' Lol Aladdin agrees to free Cassian with the stipulation that he leads him to a cave of great treasures. And in this this cave Aladdin finds the genie's lamp. I bet you could guess what happens next... JK you won't know because it's different, a new fresh twist on Aladdin's tale. It's hard not to spoil it, but I wont! If you like retellings, Aladdin and Repunzel, then you'll just have to read it!

My grip on her tightened as I ached to pull her closer. I wanted to feel her mouth on mine but her gaze flickered with fear and I stopped, a groan nearly escaping my lips as I denied my body the pleasure it craved from her.

I loved this twist on old classics and how original it was considering it is a retelling of two popular fairytales that otherwise aren't related. The characters are complex and the storyline is great! I can’t wait for the next book. I highly recommend it!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Once upon a time in a far away kingdom there lived a beautiful princess hidden behind a veil so no one could see her face. In the same Kingdom lived a handsome thief whose joy came from bedding beautiful women and stealing beautiful treasures. One day, these two crazy kids meet, fall in love, the thief renounces his old ways and the two marry and rule the kingdom together living happily ever after! Yeah.. just kidding! What does happen though is Aladdin, our handsome thief, goes on a mission with Cassian, previously a palace guard now sentenced to death for accidentally seeing the princesses face, to find the greatest treasure you could ever imagine. Once there Aladdin takes possession of the lamp tying him to Kyra, the genie. Now that he has unlimited wishes, what will Aladdin choose to do with them? He wishes to be made into a Count and enters a competition to win the princess and the kingdom of course! Wait, who's the princess? None other than the beautiful Princess Rapunzel. In this amazing retelling of two beloved stories we get to enjoy the first part of the competition and get to know these four lovable characters all over again.

Kingdom of Thieves is a wonderful retelling of Aladdin and Rapunzel in an interesting mash-up. This book has everything from forbidden love, lust, action, adventure, fighting, magic, humor and so much more. It's a tale that is easy to enjoy from beginning to end.

The story itself is well written. The characters were well thought out. Each one seemed to have been written to have their own personalities that was apparent in the text. When the point of view switched from one character to another the general tone changed with that character. I loved this as it made the story more enjoyable to read instead of being flat.

I recommend this book for a variety of audiences as it truly does have a little something for everyone. If you enjoy fairy tales and a good retelling this is definitely a book you should read. I would recommend reader/parental discretion as there are swear words in this book. Other than that there is nothing too graphic or racy. I am looking forward to and will definitely be reading the second book in this series.

This book was an interesting twist on both the Aladdin and Rapunzel fairytales. It follows the story of Aladdin, who finds the genie's lamp and enters himself in a pageant so he can win the honor of becoming Rapunzel's husband. Another POV we see is Rapunzel's as she copes with the fact her stepmother, Gothel, is trying to force her son's way to Rapunzel's heart - whether she likes it or not. We also see the prospective of Cassian, an ex member of the king's guard who is determined to show the kingdom that Gothel is a sorceress who is manipulating the king. And lastly, we see the genie, Kyra, who struggles with everyday life after being trapped in the lamp for a very very long period of time.

The characters were unique. I really enjoyed Rapunzel's chapters and a few of Kyra's, as I could relate to their characters even if it were only vaguely. As for the Aladdin and Cassian chapters, I couldn't get invested in those chapters as much as I wished I could. I found the language they used in both their dialogue and monologue to be a little bit too vulgar for my taste. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bothered by the occasional swear, but I found that it was a little over done as it was almost included in every sentence, so it just felt like a forced harshness that didn't necessarily need to be there.

Overall, the concept of the novel was neat, and really original considering it is a retelling of two popular fairytales that otherwise aren't related. I thought it was really cool how all the POV's were done so well, they went together fairly seamlessly.

"Fear is the only thing that reminds us we’re still alive after all this time.”

Aladdin is caught stealing from a noble family and is sent to prison where he meets Cassian, a former Royal Guard, who is charged for gazing upon the Princess's face. Aladdin agrees to free Cassian, only if he leads him to the cave of great treasures. Together, they come across a genie lamp and all their wishes come true; wealth, power and the chance to win the Princess's heart. Kingdom of Thieves is a dark-twisted retelling of Aladdin and Rapunzel.

⤷ This book might be based on Disney but it is clear that it is NOT a Disney retelling!

⤷ Aladdin in this book was definitely not the Aladdin we all know. He was full of himself, arrogant, greedy, cocky and a bit too aware of his good looks but deep down a good guy, kinda. Can't wait for his development throughout the series!

⤷ The genie, Kyra, was my favorite character! She was hilarious and super entertaining to read!

⤷ Cassian is dedicated to the kingdom and always putting it first. He's loyal, honest and the complete opposite of Aladdin. In the book, they have to stick together which was so humorous and fun to read!

⤷ I enjoyed Princess Rapunzel's character. She is fierce and does not need a man to rule her kingdom but unfortunately, her father has other plans. Hopefully, we get to see her being more of a badass in the next book!

"My heart is mine. And no one can have it."

This book was an amazing dark twist of two the most beloved fairytales. It was hilarious, action-filled and unique! Would read this book again and highly recommend it!

Thank you, Caroline Peckham and Susanne Valenti, for providing a copy of this book for an honest review! :)
