This book is every animal lovers heart in a written format. This book made me laugh, it made me cry, and most of all it made me so grateful for my 'fur children.' I am very much of the mindset that animals are part of our lives for reasons and this book reconfirmed that for me.
In this book we get to join Lauren and Gizelle (her Mastiff) recount Gizelle's life and a bucket list adventure. The book is a beautiful tribute to her dear friend and it made me cry. I love that connection they shared and the lessons she learned from Gizelle. What a story.
As mentioned by the summary, this has a very Marley and Me feel to it. I enjoyed the story very much and I am very grateful for the opportunity to read this book.

Cute. Sweet. Easy, one sitting read. There are time jumps and things happen without a lot of detail unless it involved Gizelle directly, and it works. In the background is her mom’s addiction, job hunting/careers, and relationships with roommates and romantic partners.
It’s a perfect dog book and will help certain 20 somethings.
But I can’t help but notice how white and middle class it all is. Might be why it doesn’t hit home more for me. *shrug*

I picked this up in an airport mainly because the Gizelle reminded me so much of my bullmastiff Doughnut who has recently died. It was so comforting to read about a dog so similar.
The memoir is decent enough, fairly heart warming and easy to read. But it is also an example of what happens when people impulsively buy a puppy with no real understanding of what it needs. I felt sorry for Gizelle who was left alone for long stretches of the day, was anxious in New York and had trouble pooping!
I did enjoy the book anyway.

Why did I think it was a good idea to read this book? I’m sitting here at work sobbing! The life, love, laughs... everything about this book is amazing. This book really opened up my eyes. My dog is 14 years old and I know that someday soon I will have to go through this pain too. Dogs really do change your life. Everyday spent with my dog has been a gift and this book help me realize that as much as we need dogs they need us even more for our love and affection. I thought that the ending of this book would leave me depressed and sad but my heart is full. Getting to know Gizelle and Lauren’s friendship was amazing. Dogs really do make life better.
A sunny afternoon whiled away with this good read. Sad though as you know what's going to happen from quite early on.
I really wanted to love this but it fell flat for me. It came off as a little insincere - but it’s about a dog so I persevered and finished it.
