Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh….. what. What?! What was that? Freaking amazing work here. Literally didn’t want to stop reading.
Sci-fi and realistic enough to be scary as hell. That’s all I’m going to say because the twists… oh the freaking twists.

I feel like the main twist is obvious but there is more to it than a surface idea of said twist. It’s a good idea but falls flat in it’s ability to deliver. With a weak love triangle in the mix too-makes the lead and her friends kind of insufferable in a book that’s explicitly about the conflicts of POW and torture.
Graphic: Addiction, Alcoholism, Animal cruelty, Body horror, Cancer, Chronic illness, Cursing, Death, Drug abuse, Genocide, Gore, Physical abuse, Suicidal thoughts, Violence, Blood, Medical content, Grief, Medical trauma, Death of parent, Toxic friendship, Alcohol, and Injury/Injury detail
A lot of mention of the idea of hurting animals? It’s not actually happening but the idea is there? (Plot reasons-it makes sense). Heavy mentions of political acts of violence during the Bush Administration.paulataua's review against another edition

Started off well and I had a strange sensation of having stumbled on something special, but the story suddenly slowed down and became painfully drawn out. From about a third of the way through, it became just a matter of patiently waiting to see where the story would end up. All in all, it was a potentially great idea, but the message, albeit one we would do well to heed, was just a little too simplistic.

I respect this book, and it’s take on horror. But like it? Woof. So hard to get through, but I had to know what was going on.
