Wonderful book! I couldn't put it down. Such a sad, young life the author lived.

Interesting

Can't really say that I loved this book, but it was entertaining enough that I read the whole thing. Amelia was also an interesting enough character that I am considering reading the next book.

The first half of this book was engaging, but the details in the second half of the book seemed rushed and a bit jumbled. There were several editorial misses throughout the book - improper apostrophe use, left off commas etc., that were distracting as a reader. Overall, the story was intriguing, but the manner in which it was told was awkward. Almost soap opera like in parts.

As an abuse survivor myself, I could understand the pain that Amelia went through. However, I felt that actual writing and story teller just weren't that engaging. I do think that the moto she lived under is key for all victims of abuse. You can not let yourself become a statistic. You must work to rise above the pain and make something of yourself.

I have loved this book since the moment I read the first two sentences. The terrible story of Amelia's childhood is told beautifully, in a way that makes the reader moved, without being a pathetic story. A positive account of a very negative experience. But the story tells us not to give up, because everybody can fulfill their dreams if they really believe in them. This is the story of a child who was forced to grow up when her mum proved to be useless for the task of upbringing her own children. I really think it is a book that everybody should read, since it is a true inspiration for everyone. Well done, Dawn G. Torrens, you moved me to tears and your story helped to look at certain things under a brand new light.
