Ummmm...
This was a hard book for me to get through. Not because of the subject matter. But because I found out there's not a resolution to the story when I was still near the beginning. So I felt like I was getting all this information and following these dual storylines for no damn reason. Having reached the end, I still feel like that. I wasn't one of those people who appreciated Serial season 1 for what it was; I was one of the people that felt like I'd wasted my time. This book is that experience all over again. I didn't hate it by any means. It's still a good story told in an interesting way. But I certainly don't love it and will probably not read it again. Or tell others to read it.

the ambiguous ending killllllllls me.
Graphic: Addiction, Pedophilia, Sexual assault
Moderate: Suicide, Blood
I read this book really quickly, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I like the podcast format, it kept things interesting when switching perspectives. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time
TRIGGER WARNING: sexual abuse, pedophilia
The ending. I'm reeling. It's so complete and incomplete at the same time that it works. A part of me broke by the time I reached the end.
I had mixed feelings when I started this book. I liked it enough to keep reading, but it was really quiet. At the same time, it had a lonely, eerie, dangerous air about it. Maybe that's why I kept reading, and it was so worth it.
I loved how raw Sadie was. I loved how driven she was and I love that she went out to do what she had to do. She had no experience in doing everything she did, which made every spontaneous and planned decision she made risky and impactful, proving her drive and devotion to bring justice for a crime that nobody could've suspected.
I sensed what happened and the reason she was intent on finding her sister's killer very early on, which built the dread and sickening feeling as I continued reading because I felt the need for justice and I felt how... desperate the situation is for so, so many people dealing with sexual abuse.
This book focused on the way abusers control their victims and the everlasting effect it has. I really don't know what to say because I feel hollowed out. So many people go through this and don't get the justice they deserve. So many abusers and rapists and assaulters walk free and continue raving destruction in the real world. There aren't words to describe what this does to me.
I hope this book gives people even a little hope. I hope we get more justice.
Not only was this an important book, but it was written masterfully too. I loved how the podcast was written exactly like a podcast sounds, and I love that it gave us another side to the story. I love the way diversity was seamlessly worked in, and I love how Sadie's POV gave us just enough, just what we needed to know before the book ended.
With the trigger warnings in mind, I highly recommend everyone give this a read. I'll be looking into the author's others works and I'm looking forward to what she's releasing next.

That ending was BS. There’s a question on the front of the book and do we get an answer to that question? Nope. So annoyed.
This was much deeper than I was expecting. I FLEW through this book.
First I'd like to say the audio production of this was amazing. This is probably the best audiobook I've listened to so far in that regard. Now to the book itself OMG this book was so good but painful to get through because of the content. My heart broke for all those girls but especially for Sadie.

Summers writing is haunting and beautiful. Being in a podcast format I can't imagine reading this except through the audiobook. This story will stick with me for a long time.
