I received an Advanced Reader’s copy of this book from Wednesday Books.
I enjoyed the alternating plot lines of the podcast and Sadie’s perspective. The podcast line made the book read faster - getting to Sadie’s chapters felt a little draining... like there was too much writing on the page. I think the podcast storyline made the novel. Coming across the clues to where Sadie had been made the story move along. I rooted more for that than for the character of Sadie herself. However, I will say that Sadie was a ballsy character fueled by the love for her sister. The revenge of her death was the only thing pushing Sadie through her life.

I normally find true crime interesting but honestly, I found this such a slog (which is weird considering I listened to the audiobook and the inherent nature of the book) and it took me like 2 weeks to finish. I just wish there was more of the podcast.
Where do I even start?
Sadie’s synopsis was an immediate attention grabber. My attention, as of late, has been on thrillers and suspenseful reads. Something exciting to look forward too. Something that makes me not want to put the book down.
What would keep me interested would have to be the alternating chapters. They’re of Sadie’s POV and then ‘radio show’ The Girls telling Sadie’s story by West McCray. At first I thought I just wanted the radio show POV but the more I read Sadie’s side of events the more it made sense I wanted to read about her and not just the radio show.
Third, and the ONLY issue I had with this book, while this is a tremendous read I feel like the book climax carried on just a TOUCH too long. Like the whole point took just a bit too long to get to the cinematic finish. I nearly put the book down. I might have put it away had I not already invested in the emotional abuse of finding out the books answers!!
Lastly, OMG THAT FREAKING ENDING! Courtney, how could you?! I don’t know if it was… anti-climactic. Too climactic. I don’t know! It’s not sitting with me right and I’m mad and upset! But I get it. And I hate it! And it wasn’t good too! Argh! But it was too good! I’M FULL OF EMOTIONS!
The ending is really sitting with me and I’m not sure I’ll ever get to a place where I’ll accept it fully. But it’s there.
Basically, if you want a book to beat you up, SADIE is the one to do it, hands down.

This is not a light or easy book. Hard subjects... child abuse, sexual assault, drug abuse, and murder. This story was raw and brutal but can open important conversations about abuse, in all its forms. The story alternates formats - part podcast and part novel. I listened to the audio which was presented with a cast of readers making the experience even more intense.
This book is going to stay with me in the same way that Lovely Bones and Me & Emma have.

Such a hard hitting topic written in an amazing way! A little slow in the first chapter or two but after that it becomes truly gripping
