4.5

I seriously thought this was a solid book and that it deserves 4 stars and then it made me cry so I decided to give it 4,5 stars.

It reads as an autobiography, jumping from event to event and back but in no point is in confusing-it actually makes it better. The writing style is simplistic but the more I read it the more i appreciated it and grew to love it.

As a non-Native person, I knew before I read it I'd be missing out on the cultural aspects, things that were supposed to mean something to those who recognised it. I tried to understand some of the words that popped up by googling them. At some part there were entire sentences in Cree that I couldn't really translate-I just hope I didn't miss out on anything crucial.

The moments of kinship with his mum and grandma were my favourite to read, they're deeply human and emotional!

The book is very erotic-something I'm not quite comfortable reading but could work with in this book after I got over my surprise, but I do think it's important to note.
