My Review:⭐️⭐⭐⭐/ 5 stars

I must admit I chose this because of the cute cat on the cover…I did not read any synopsis/blurbs about it and do not usually read cozy mystery novels… so I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I devoured every single page. The dialogue was fun and the characters quirky. This is the first installment of the Island Sisters series, and I am so glad I got to read the first one. Margot and Evie head to Tregarrick Rock on the Isle of Scilly after Evie’s husband's death to see if she would be inheriting it. After arriving, they immediately notice how strange everyone is withholding information about her late husband and his connection to them. After discovering a dead body, everyone at the hotel are deemed suspects considering the remote location and everyone having a possible motive/secret. I read all 300 + pages in just 1 day - it was a fun, quick mystery read and I am looking forward to the next installment. I highly recommend if you want a quick, mystery beach read.

Thank you to @netgalley and @minotaurbooks for my advanced copy in exchange for my honest review! It will be out on August 18th!

So, I don't think this one worked for me much at all. I feel like it was too obvious who the villain was from nearly the opening scene and while that can often be played for good effect in a mystery, here it mostly felt like we weren't supposed to see it coming.

Interesting. Not my favourite, but it was enough to get through. The author seemed to be trying really hard to be cheeky, but just came across as annoying. And the voice actor needs improvement too. She was too loud and too quiet with many of the characters. I nearly went deaf from this book.

When Evie’s much-older husband dies, leaving her in financial straits but with the potential inheritance of a hotel in the Isles of Scilly, her glamorous sister Margot persuades her to take a weekend trip to scope out her legacy. But the hotel isn’t quite the luxurious, welcoming resort the sisters envisaged, and soon its faded charms are marred by murder.

Death at High Tide pulled me in immediately, and kept me turning the pages. It’s a great set-up for the series, introducing us to Evie, Margot, and several other characters who I suspect will become series regulars, including a possible love interest and the island’s female police constable. Dennison excels at creating believably quirky characters, and the island has its share, from perennial guest Lily and her cat Mister Tig to the local vicar and the aforementioned constable.

Tregarrick Rock itself is wonderfully atmospheric, and I found myself wishing I could go there to experience the hotel’s lush gardens and windswept isolation for myself. High tide cuts the hotel off from the nearby island and village of Tregarrick, adding to the locked-room (locked-island?) suspense as first one, then another character falls victim to an unknown killer. The mystery plot is well-constructed, and Dennison’s sure hand makes sure the pacing doesn’t falter. But it’s the characters and setting that really make Death at High Tide shine. I’m already looking forward to the next book, and Evie’s further adventures on the island of Tregarrick.

An easy to read cosy mystery, set on one of Scilly Isles.
Decent plot although felt ending was a little rushed and a couple of things did not link together, in my opinion.
Great characters and setting. Would read the next in the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this simple light hearted non demanding story.  A book my Mom would have loved with straight forward characters and a nice little plot. Easily guessed, straight forward descriptions, non taxing writing.  A great little book to clear the hard stuff away and get me ready to tackle something more challenging again.  I recommend it!

Charming and surprising, one of those great mysteries that keeps you guessing but also has some humor thrown in. Looking forward to #2 in August and to reading more of Hannah Dennison.

Loved this cozy mystery! Great storyline. Fun characters. I guessed the “whodunit” but I still enjoyed every minute of it.

Thank you Minotaur Books for my advanced copy!
