Not everything has to remain the same, and not all doors have to lead somewhere.
Little My is probably at her funniest in this. No milk for our girl, just good ol' coffee and peas!

This is the only Moomin book that I always expect to be more magical and, I don't know, more summery I guess. That's not to say that it's not. I just don't personally get that feeling or love it as much as I'd like to, even though it's set during Midsummer.
Overall, it's a fun adventure during a flood. The magic of theater turns out to be more difficult to create than the Moomin family ever thought, Snufkin tries his hand as a foster father, and some of our friends end up in jail, but eventually it's time to return home. The magic of Midsummer feels like a dream when ordinary and familiar life resurfaces from under the water. It's only the beginning of summer and further adventures await!

Pidän paljon kirjan alusta, leppoisasta Muumien arjesta. Huomasin kirjan aikana myös sen, että erityisesti Muumikirjoissa itseäni viehättää hahmojen dialogi. Joltain voi aina odottaa jotain nokkelaa sanottavaa. Miska on yksi lempihahmoistani. Vaikka olenkin kaukana hänestä, hänen surulliset ajatuksensa tuntuvat välillä hyvinkin tutuilta.
Vaarallinen juhannus nappasi ensimmäisellä lukukerralla paljon tehokkaammin mukaansa, mutta kai siinä on kyse tuntemattomien seikkailujen viehätyksestä, vaikkei tarina nytkään aivan tuoreessa muistissa ollut.

"Did anybody take the hammock in?" asked Moominpappa suddenly.
No one had remembered the hammock.
"Good," said Moominpappa. "It was a horrid colour."

I gave myself a break from the dark and tense Soviet history books for a while to make way for Moominsummer Madness. Reading this the morning after New Years gives me some sense of tranquility.
As someone who has done theatre before makes me appreciate this book even more, finding myself reminiscing the days of yore. The mishaps are relatable, except for a part where... Oh, just read the book.
After finishing it, I went straight to watch its animated counterpart, and it is nice to see the 1990s Moomin cartoon stays true to Jansson's books, and Moominsummer Madness is one of them.
If you are looking for a lighthearted book, or a theatre enthusiast, or seeking some tranquility, or just a plain Moomin fan, old or new, this book is for you.
Kaunis ja mukava muumitarina. Edellisen kirjan syvyys tästä puuttui, samoin kaikkein ihanimmat oivallukset, mutta taattua laatua kuitenkin.
Vill jag läsa något som alltid roar mig läser jag någon av Muminböckerna. Farlig Midsommar väcker minnen från när jag som barn besökte Mumindalen i Nudådalen i Finland och där såg just den teater som utspelar sig i boken.
