Cheaters By Eric Jerome Dicky
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another 5 star masterpiece, his writing style is so immaculate and unique, it draws you in and once you start reading you can’t take your eyes away from the book. I was hooked from the first page, he writes about real people and realistic situations that just draws me in.
This book is about People who cheat, not just men but women as well. It’s not a book about trying to explain why people cheat, it’s just about real people and realistic situations.
Starting with Stephen, from page one I knew he had some serious unhealed childhood trauma from his dad. His dad was a cheater who constantly cheated on his mother with multiple women, and would encourage that same behavior to Stephen at a very young age. That unfortunately stuck with him and he ends up becoming just like his dad as an adult. He misses his dad and that sticks with him as well. I believe if he was pushed in a more posture direction he wouldn’t have turned out being a cheater like his dad.
I could relate to Chanté so much she was a hopeless romantic who just wanted to love and be loved. I could definitely relate to constantly giving your all to men and then being done wrong time and time again. When it came to Stephen she tried to keep her guard up for fear of being hurt again, but was too drawn to him same as he was to her. I think a lot of women could relate to not wanting to get hurt again, but finding it hard not to open your heart up when you feel that strong undeniable connection with someone.
Between Stephen and Jack, Darnel was definitely not the one cut out for infidelity, but still human. He never cheated on his wife but became an absent husband when he was going through law school and working on his book. Which put a strain on his marriage with Dawn. When he met Tammy it was this instant emotional soulmate connection between them, because she supported his dreams and understood him in a way his wife didn’t.
My favorite side character in the book definitely has to be Tammy, she will definitely be a book character that will stick with me. She was so passionate and ambitious.
I highly recommend this book!

Why is this my first read by this author?
If you’ve ever read a book and then find yourself wondering why nobody told you about this author before then you know exactly how I feel after reading Cheaters. Very detailed storylines that tangle within each other and keep you coming back for more. Eric Jerome Dickey’s writing will shake you to the core.

Preface: I found this book on my mum’s bookshelf and decided to give it a read. I completed this book a few weeks ago and I have a few concerns with it. I talked to @shadesnpages when I finished and she described the author as the Tyler Perry of literature and I can understand why. Now this book is older than my life, so if you haven’t read it by now, you probably don’t have any intention to.

Eric Jerome Dickey!!!! So far, excluding the Gideon series, this is my favorite book by EJD. I absolutely love how EJD moves aside as the author and let the characters speak in their own voice. The character development in this book had me both hating and loving the characters at different points in the story. It was a good story with a good but unexpected ending. If you haven't read Cheaters, check it out.
