This is a really thoughtful discussion of the engineering career path by the author of the "Being Glue" talk (https://noidea.dog/glue)

It's the best book that I read on the topic of advancing the software engineering career. I'll read again for sure and highly recommend for whatever level of an engineer you are!

I loved this book. Not only does it have the clearest explanation of the Staff+ role that I've seen communicated so far, it is also great at providing frameworks that are widely applicable for doing the job. I also loved that it has helped me discover other cool resources and people I should follow.

There was a lot to think about in this one. And it is not clear how much of this is usable. And how much is just confirmation for me. There is a lot of anecdotal stuff in this, a lot of wit. And yet it was a pretty slow read. It'd be interesting to go back and use this book for its book list. And for its links. And perhaps that is out there somewhere. It would presumably be interesting to go through this book with peers. But everyone's path is different. But it is awesome that this book exists - there are not nearly enough books on or near this subject. 3.5 of 5.

Has a lot of good information about ways to be effective in a role that has no clear definition.  The information will definitely apply more to employees of large companies with a diverse range of possible projects for a staff engineer to take on.
