About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was annoying. Second, there was a part of this book-and I didn’t know how potent that part might be-that was damage control for how poorly the 2005 dialogue aged. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably ready for it to be over.

"We were the gods of our own alternate universe. Inside the mortal world but over it, never slaves to its laws, only our own. There was no God that I belonged to. No one for me to supplicate."

This is like if You was about vampires instead of incels.

I'm of the opinion that Twilight is dumb but enjoyably dumb and I, for one, enjoy it. As a foolish 10-year-old who knew nothing about Twilight, I was on team Edward arbitrarily, because he was a vampire and not a shapeshifter who turns into a big dog. I still feel that way lol but I digress.

Midnight Sun follows the events of Twilight (like literally, the exact events in the same chapters, down to the chapter titles). Edward is essentially a stalker who violently obsesses over a boring pasty girl (according to his own description of her before he smells her blood and wants to eat her). Bella, on her part, doesn't feel like a human being, and not in a mystical creature way but rather a cardboard cutout kinda way. She has no emotions, no opinions, no interests outside of Edward. I recall her having a bit more flavor in Twilight but maybe that was all internal dialogue, which Edward is not privy to; and so in this book, she is rendered a pale imitation of a character. I forgot she was in a scene sometimes until Edward turned his craving gaze to her.

There are few additions to the plot, as Edward spends the whole time pontificating over his eternal damnation and watching Bella sleep. I liked the darker tone overall, and he made some pretty good points sometimes, but it didn't change the fact that there wasn't really a plot.

I really hope she doesn't make a whole new series in Edward's perspective. But if she does, might I suggest some titles? They're terrible but I don't care.

New Moon -- Dusk
Eclipse -- Penumbra
Breaking Dawn -- Dark Sunrise

(Pre-review)

1) I'm angry. The Host deserves better than this

2) That cover literally looks fan made and I really don't like it. First of all, weird shot of a pomegranate; like, I'm sure they could have gotten a better picture. Second of all, why is the font so big? The Twilight covers have notoriously tiny title font. This looks like a reasonably skilled but not professional fan cover.

3) Literally what is this going to add to the story that we don't already know? I'm sorry to break everyone's Twi-hard hearts but this is pointless in every conceivable way

4) Regardless, I'm still gonna read it

Screw Edward Cullen. I loved hearing everyone else’s stories, but ending on Edward lying to Bella and planning on leaving her (even though I know how it ends, but New Moon is my least favorite part of the Twilight saga). Overall an okay book.

If you want to listen to 24 hours of a 100+ year old man attempting to justify a relationship with a child this book is for you. Truly terrible, adds nothing to the four previous books. I listened at 2x speed.

Well worth the wait! Learning what Edward thought through all of Bella’s confusing “non-thoughts” was so much fun to read! I really hope there will be more books from his side! And I can’t wait to read them!!

i thought i was going to hate this book i genuinely did. i firmly believed that around 700 pages of a man’s thoughts about how he falls in love with the girl he wants to kill would be horrible, and i’d stop reading after 10 pages.
i was wrong, so wrong.
i dont know how i got so sucked into the story but i could not put the book down, i was only interrupted by morning alarms (or seeing that it was 2am at night). time makes better writers of us all and i think that’s super apparent in midnight sun. the analogies were gorgeous, the writing style less jumbled, and there were actually parts that i screenshotted because i thought they were so prettily written or were genuinely funny (i also have about 20 screenshots of proof that alice and bella were in fact gay for each other). my favourite line of the whole book is definitely “she dreamed of me, i wanted to dream of her”-“i could not dream of her, she should not dream of me.” THAT PART WAS PAINFUL. genuinely stunned me.
i think im mostly insanely surprised i liked it this much. its weird and compulsive and deep and stupid and flawed and beautiful and painful. loved reading this sm.

Bruh. The nostalgia kept me reading. But oh my god. As an impressionable teenager reading the twilight series, there were so many toxic and terrible things I didn’t pick up on. They’re obsessively in love after having maybe 2 conversations. That’s the least of all the evils. Edward’s monologues give “pray the gay away.” And on repeat he respects nothing Bella chooses for herself. Bc he continuously knows better than her. The power difference is VAST and made even worse by realizing how narcissistic and abusive her mother is. That woman (made a vampire) would compel people to do whatever she wanted bc that’s how she’s pranced through life. And it’s all centered on her. And no one sees issue with this? Renee thinks yeah Bella move to Florida and I will be with your underage ass 50% of the time. And by the way, you’ll be taking care of ME during that time. Also hella anxious to get back to my boyfriend. Know you’re dying in a hospital but just really miss the bf. I was team Edward as a kid. And I can confidently say after learning his pov I have no respect for this creepy asshole who doesn’t let Bella choose anything. Also all the connections to fucking Mormonism/Christianity/whatever were so gross to me. The indoctrination. Ugh. Vomit. Hate. I gave 2 stars only bc I finished it. But this was absolute trash. And not in the fun way. But rather in the problematic way.
