I’m really enjoying the Vrisha warriors series so far and this was no exception.

Charlotte is a human doctor who is well versed in alien medicine, and she is coerced into treating alien prisoners on board a military prison ship. Her main patient is a Vrisha male, a species known for being mysterious and the ultimate predator in the known galaxies.

I loved the slowly burgeoning trust and respect that forms between the two of them. At first Axrel is suspicious of Charlotte’s motives, but her compassionate nature and open-mindedness soon make him realise that she is genuinely trying to help him. He’s extremely distrustful of humans, but he’s starting to realise that maybe he likes this one….

When the ship crashes on the prison planet, all hell breaks loose. Axrel and Charlotte are forced to rely on each other to survive and attempt an escape. Their tenuous bond builds into something that feels forbidden but steamy. I loved the push and pull between them before they gave in.

The pacing dipped in the middle and there was maybe a bit too much of a lack of communication. However, I was rooting for them both and I loved the resolution to the story. I’m definitely going to keep going with this series!

Idk....2.75? 3?

I mean I really liked the first half! But I found myself zoning a lots in the middle and second half. I felt like once the second half started they jumped fast into a relationship and I didnt feel like it flowed into it and missed the development of romance. Like I'm not sure WHY they liked each other.

Still wanna read the next one tho

F + alien M, Sci Fi, ⭐️4/5

I can't help but compare this book to Heart's Prisoner, an earlier book in the series. The premise is super similar. Forced proximity, the mmc being held by a corrupt authority and the fmc being one of the good ones, enemies to lovers and of course the big climax where they need to work together.
But this book lacked the substance the other book had with the themes and the relationship.
I can't really say I like the characters more- let's be real here, their personalities are extremely copy-paste- but I liked their relationship more in Heart's Prisoner. The development felt way more realistic.
This book is slow burn (which i love), but in the end I simply don't believe they love eachother. I think that had to do with that the characters where reacting to a lot of high action situations instead of talking and developing a bond.
If this book seems interesting to you, I recommend Heart's Prisoner. It's the better execution of this one.
Anyway did not much care for this book, but Riley's writing is solid. As is her world building. 3 stars.

It was ok. I think I’m in a reading slump and it’s affecting my ratings
