I really, really loved this! Yeo's voice is so vibrant and engaging, even when I didn't know what was gonna happen and feared a bit for her I was completely swept by it. I loved all the choices Cho made for this character, and I would love to know more about her life (even though I do understand this is a standalone). I would definitely recommend and I'll be checking more of her writing for sure!
I read this novella for one of the Read Harder reading challenges. I enjoyed this story quite a bit and really liked the main character. I did feel that the ending was a bit rushed and it probably could have been a bit longer. 3.75/5 stars (rounded up to 4/5)!

Jade, or rather Geok Huay, is a young Chinese woman in 1920's multicultural London, eeking out a life as a writer of women magazine columns and literary reviews, until one day her path crosses that of the famous author of the moment whose book she has just written a scathing review of.
This novella was a lot of fun, with a diverse cast of characters (both in terms of origin & sexuality). The narrator tells her adventures in her journal, and her witticisms reminded me of I Capture the Castle (a book I adore). One thing that really threw me off, I'd rather point out, is the very graphic sex scene. I wish, given that the narrator tells the story retrospectively, that that scene had been put a little more into context rather than being thrown at the reader like that. Apart from this, there were interesting character dynamics, and a lot of themes packed into this quick story, including a distinction between romantic and sexual attraction which was quite welcome.
Rep : Chinese MC, Indian secondary character, lesbian secondary character.

This was a delightful, heartwarming read. A story based on diary entries that kinda flows in and out into a novel-like narration. I loved all the characters and wish to know all about them. They are fleshed out, sparkling and feel very real. I am only sad that it was so brief!

cute, but short it's really short, not really a story. but part of something and now that i think about it, if i had jade for a whole book and she was all this cute and witty all the time, i might not have liked it at all! so all in all, it would have probably been 3 stars except that it worked for a novella and then witty and clever thing was pretty fun for a short while and also the short story at the end was also very nice.
