Funny little snippet. Pacing was a bit pell-mell, but that's due to it being 81 pages with a LOT going on. Almost like, too much for its length. Still, a saucy and fun read.
An Asian woman fleeing to London to avoid arranged marriage and embrace the affairs coming in her way. Whilst Zen Cho's writing is good, the story just feels lacking to me. I feel a bit cheated to be honest because Jade Yeo's life is not really "perilous". She faced the typical racism it was at the time but not really violent, she had an affair with a married man that turns out he has an open marriage, got pregnant and live in a remote location and get together with her crush. THE END.
I have thoroughly enjoyed other works by Zen Cho, but this one just didn't work for me. The endgame ship was lovely, but the denouement was rushed and the other couple REALLY didn't appeal to me.

I love everything Zen Cho writes, but I somehow missed reading this first self-published novelette until now. A delightful and very short romance full of Cho's unique humor and sharpness. Jade's frank descriptions of her first experience of sex are hilarious and maybe reading them in public, as I did, is not the best idea!

Epistolary romance novella which was so much enormous fun, and I would like the author to hurry up and write a full length novel.
Utterly delightful! Beautifully written, the words are well-chosen & the prosed is weaven in such a way as to make you feel on the inside of a very witty story.
This is what good writing is!
I love every single thing about this book. Even Aunt Iris.
Especially Geok Huay & Ravi. I ship it very much.

This novella was not at all what I expected. It's proof that even if I dislike the plot, I still appreciate Zen Cho's writing. I did some major page skipping during certain scenes but the ending was sweet enough to raise it to 3 stars.
