I think this was fascinating to ancient Greeks.
I am not an ancient Greek.

Look, I'm sorry, I get that this was incredibly important and influential when it comes to Western literature. I'm not disputing the cultural and historic value of The Iliad. I just can't here and force myself through reading about "so-and-so, son of so-and-so" who comes from this one place, and did this thing to another "so-and-so, son of someone else". I think if I didn't know the story itself (we went over some sort of abridged version of The Iliad and The Odyssey in school)—my curiosity about the plot might have kept me going. But as it is I currently have no interest in continuing this book. I am at a point in my life where I have accepted that it's impossible to read every influential and important book ever written, so I am moving on to books I have a lot more interest in.
