I find Ulysses's character obnoxious. No quotation marks either makes for an awkward read.

A whimsical hopeful story of lovable characters. The colloquial use of language evocates great sense of time and place. A joy to read

I was disappointed with this one. I didn’t like the short choppy sentences and lack of punctuation, which made it difficult to find the rhythm.
I felt like the author was trying too hard to stuff in as many odd characters as possible. In the end, I just didn’t care about them enough to care what happened to them.
This was a book club read. Otherwise I am not sure I would have persevered.

A deeply satisfying, complex historical fiction novel about love and community in two settings, East End of London and Florence, Italy. An homage to E. M. Forster's Room With A View. A prescient parrot. Communing with nature. And, Art in all its forms. Lots of Art.

Really enjoyed the middle 80% of this book after a slow start. Bit of a meandering end took the shine off it, but it was nice to spend time with some sympathetic characters being pleasant to eachother.

I loved the poetic language in this book. The cast of characters were so endearing despite their flaws. I couldn’t help but get drawn into their daily life.

the only reason it took me so long to read was because i didnt want it to end!!!!!! everything a slice of life novel should be and more, im so glad i picked this up while being an art history student at the end of their year abroad :) i will miss this part of my life forever + the time well spent reading this book for the first time
