I loved this book. And I hated "Our Town."

(maybe I'll reread "Our Town"?)

This book was a good read that explored the depths of human belief through the lens of a monk trying to make divine sense of an accident. I thoroughly enjoyed the way Thornton Wilder wrote this book. Such an interesting book and got straight down to business despite exploring the existential questions of human life.

Realistic to the point of dull, San Luis Rey has a few interesting reflections and a great overarching plot, but its stories are plodding and, whilst extremely well written, boring. It's well worth reading, but flawed in many major aspects.

Simple and surprising. Beautiful treatise on the nature of love without ever making my eyes roll. Highly reccommend.

What an enchanting, beautiful book. Somehow, despite its brevity, it spins such a tale and expounds upon such a great breadth of the human experience, of loss and life and love. I am truly in awe of its brilliant economy… wow. Just a glorious read.

A classic, but it did nothing for me. If it had been much longer, I would have abandoned it.

Wilder's characters were wonderfully drawn, and I expect they'll stick with me for some time.
