Reading books for grown ups is upsetting me. Zevin writes not to cheer, but to create an eerie unsettling feeling in the bottom of the stomach. That aside, this book is good. It made me feel worried about and proud of my financial habits simultaneously.

Yeesh. What a bummer of a book. It's like nothing good happens even a little bit and I just feel sad for all the characters. I love zevin's style, so it was still enjoyable enough to read, but I kept waiting for some sort of redemption for anyone and just never got it

A little scattered. I couldn’t quite figure out whose story it was supposed to be.

Couldn’t stop reading.
This was brilliant. Extremely heavy on the heart and mind, very emotional.
A series of grave topics, all explained in a very light tone.

I almost DNF this around 35%. I thought I was getting into a story about averagely flawed people making some poor decisions. But no. One character is awful, and his bad decisions ripple through everyone else’s lives.

The only reason I finished it was that around 40%, she finally gave me the POV of a character I could care about. I wish it hadn’t taken that long.
