This is such a hard one to rate - really gotta think less literally and more metaphorically.
I think focusing on the protagonist being a literal BUG makes for an off-putting but still entertaining experience. Now knowing that Kafka is speaking metaphorically, whether it be sickness or society or whatever, my thoughts on the book have changed a bit. I mostly definitely would like to come back and reread The Metamorphosis in a way that is more befitting to the ideal experience.
Due to the heavy metaphorical content in such a short read, I would really recommend this if you're looking for a read that gets you considering meanings beyond the explicitly written word.

I personally related Gregor's metamorphosis to disability, and how the disabled are often seen as burdens. In that way, I enjoyed the family dynamics and see them as near realism. However, I did not love the novella. I feel most of the text was underwhelming, and the character's form was the saving grace from total banality.
