any one of us can wake up at any moment in life and suddenly find ourselves a disgusting giant bug in the eyes of society. people (even the closest ones) will shout 'ew!' after u, inflict wounds — just to hide u from others. nd no matter what u say, u wont be understood.

a beautiful book about how societal expectations dehumanize the individual: about being trapped in the curse of but-what-will-others-thinking, and about those very bugs who simply dont fit into such concerns.

What a solid story.

I loved the style of Gregor's logical, yet divergent, trains of thought about what he was concerned about, as his life fell apart. Despite the numerous issues, work was his overarching priority. What t drove his care and love for his family was the fear of disappointing his managers, losing his job, and not making an income.

Confinement, sameness, and ridicule are more debilitating than his physical state, though I love the descriptions of his
Spoilerbrown fluid injuries from being shoved and the apple lodging in his back.

I enjoyed reading the family's thoughts and decisions as the days grew further away from Gregor's ability to make income. Their attitude is so loveless, with the slight exception of Grete's pitying assistance that diminishes under how burdensome the daily care is. Would love to discuss this book with someone on discussions of the ability to work and how that affects one's value.

A wonderful little read, I look forward to The Trial and Kafka's other stories.

It's very nice to read something so well writen. All the details, the discomfort we feel when we have details of the situation, which gradually goes from unreal to common. The way relationships develop, which naturally deepen as episodes and days go by. I need space to read another stuf, but i wanna finish it another moment.

Nunca creí que me iba a gustar tanto este libro, pero la gente tiene razón es muy bueno. Y puede llevar a conversaciones sorprendentes sobre el valor le da la sociedad a las personas que ya no se consideran útiles.

oh this is gutwrenching. i knew as much: kafka turns into a monstrous bug and has a weird relationship with his father. i expected it to be more of a metaphor, but it has surprised me in the approach it took, and it was exactly what i needed. i genuinely can’t find a single flaw in this, the writing style was perfect (thanks to my translation?), even the words fit the context so perfectly, the family dynamics are established so clearly (my favorite part is when grete cries over her mom, her tears pouring down her mom’s face as well), gregor samsa is just one of the most tragic characters i’ve ever read about, the bug “shenanigans” are written exceedingly well, the obvious invisibility of samsa so apparent even when he haunts their thoughts and actions constantly, despite the silence. wowowowow. genuinely a masterpiece.
